Whether working in hospitals, clinics, or long-term care facilities, RNs play a crucial role in coordinating patient care, ensuring safety, and improving health outcomes. RNs with specialization in intensive care units (ICUs), emergency rooms, and long-term care are highly valued for their ability to manage complex and critical situations.

Responsibilities
  • Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical and mental health status, including taking vital signs, reviewing medical history, and performing physical examinations.

  • Emotional Support: Offer emotional support to patients and their families, addressing concerns and providing reassurance during stressful or critical situations.
  • Care Coordination: Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive care, ensuring all aspects of patient health are addressed.
  • Critical Care Management: For those in specialized units such as ICUs or emergency rooms, manage critical care patients by monitoring life-support systems, responding to emergencies, and adjusting care plans as needed.
  • Documentation: Accurately document all aspects of patient care, including assessments, interventions, medication administration, and patient responses, in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Quality and Safety: Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulations to maintain high standards of care, patient safety, and infection control.
