Summary
The Registered Nurse provides direct care to patients using the nursing process. This includes ongoing assessment of the total patient. The RN provides interventions to treat the presenting symptoms and evaluates the effect of nursing interventions and patient's responses. The RN functions as a team leader/member and resource to others. The RN delegates, oversees and provides direction to support staff. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to establish goals and outcomes for each patient. The RN is responsible for meeting the needs of all types of patients
Responsibilities
(40%) Regularly assesses patient's needs and provides skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician authorized plan of care and accepted standards of evidence based nursing practice. (30%) Provides direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, education, call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties as appropriate (20%) Evaluates effectiveness of treatment plan and makes suggestions or participates in updating/revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care. (10%) The RN is knowledgeable and compliant with all local, state and federal regulations and guidelines as well as hospital specific policies and procedures relating to care provided in the medical center.

Observes and assesses patient during postoperative stay, reports abnormal or unusual symptoms to appropriate person. Monitors and helps control patient's postoperative pain. Monitors Aldrete score to ensure patient is ready for discharge from post op phase I. Monitors and helps control patient's postoperative nausea and vomiting. Receives report from nursing unit on preoperative inpatients. Delivers proper hand off of communication to receiving nursing unit once patient is ready for discharge from post-op phase I. Assists in the day surgery unit as needed. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner. This position must show knowledge, ability, and competence in treating unit specific patient populations. Must follow MyMichigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required. MyMichigan Health is a technology driven organization and employees need to demonstrate competency in Microsoft® Windows. An employee may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health. One year of critical care experience. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS CEN, CCRN, and/or PACU Certification preferred. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Regularly exposed to stressful situations; trauma, grief and death, public contact, decision making and a high level of concentration. Able to work with latex equipment or supplies. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about the unit and hospital. Overall vision is necessary; including reading, depth perception, close-up work and must have a peripheral field of vision. Hearing and speech on the phone as well as in person are necessary. Must be able to communicate verbally in person, on the phone and in writing. Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake Is frequently required to physically aide patients, including lifting. Must be able to lift minimum of 50 lbs. Overall dexterity is required, including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling. Subject to on-call or irregular schedule.
