Job description

Child and Family Guidance Center is recruiting a psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) for our mental health North Texas clinics. This position requires traveling to different North Texas clinics. Responsible for providing medication training to mental health consumers in the Dallas/Collin County areas. Is required to work at different locations in Dallas and surrounding Cities. Provides rehabilitative services designed to assist individuals in achieving an optimal quality of life. The goals of rehabilitation services include increased management of mental health symptoms (symptom management), increased knowledge about medication, improved physical health, decreased psychiatric hospitalizations, and increased community tenure.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Medication training delivered to each client as necessary.
  • Providing education on diagnosed medical issues and/or reported physical symptoms.
  • Administers medication injections for clients of Child and Family Guidance Center when due either in the clinic setting or in the community.
  • Works with insurance companies, pharmacies, and/or Patient Assistance Programs to ensure that clients get their medications as prescribed and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain inventory of medications according to program needs.
  • Will track medication inquiries from internal providers, patient phone calls and inquiries and make appropriate outbound phone calls and communications to resolve medication needs and inquiries.
  • Will track and manage client labs and medication inventory.
  • Will track basic indicators of physical health such as weight and blood pressure.
  • Will maintain cooperative working relationships with all agency staff and community partners.
  • Will facilitate client referrals and needs to appropriate medical and psychiatric entities.
  • Required to work individually with consumers.
  • Independently perform rehabilitative services, which are based on consumer desires, medical necessity, and clinical judgment.
  • Required to document timely all nursing activities in the medical record.
  • Provide consultation to vendor agencies with whom our agency contracts, as required.
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Maintain case records and reports in accordance with agency procedures and procedures prescribed by contracts with vendor agencies.
  • Maintain all records in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Be familiar with the Policies and Procedures manual.
  • Prepare and present cases for review by supervisor, as required.
  • Maintain professional certification and/or licensure, when required.
  • Keep skills updated by utilizing professional literature and training events, when required.
  • Attend staff and individual meetings as required.
  • Attend and complete all training and staff development assigned.
  • Keep all state licensure requirements current.
  • Perform duties without violating any ethical codes, state or federal codes or requirements.
  • Comply with all cities, state or federal laws and rule and regulations.
  • Provide services according to the efficiency and profitability standards set (Includes a Benchmark expectation).
  • Make community aware of services of the agency; serve on task forces as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge:
  • Understanding of diagnosis and treatment of clinical disorders and life adjustment problems. Knowledge of treatment documentation, confidentiality and ethical guidelines for practice. Knowledge/awareness of service agencies works in a community setting. Expert knowledge of medications used in the treatment of mental illness.

Education & Experience:
  • Able to work independently and use good judgment. Ability to relate to consumers, employees, and the general public in a professional manner. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to prioritize. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to adhere to articulated policy and procedures. Ability to go out on home visits required. Must work flexible schedule.
  • Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and have licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Two (2) years of experience needed in a community setting with knowledge of rehabilitative techniques and community resources for chronically mental ill consumers with a focus on medication management

Physical Requirements:
  • Employee must be able to frequently (up to 65% of the time) sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs (if an elevator is unavailable)
  • Must be able to frequently (up to 65% of the time) talk, listen and speak clearly in person and via telephone.
  • Must be able to push, pull, life and/or carry up to 10lbs, in weight on occasion (up to 35%)
