Job description

Job Summary
As a critical care nurse at Sentara Rockingham, you will be the frontline defender for the most acute patients in the hospital. Working closely with pulmonologists, intensivists, and other therapists, you will execute evidence-based care plans, manipulate vasoactive infusions, and provide emotional support to critically ill patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Assessment: Conduct detailed, continuous assessments of critically ill patients' physical, mental, and emotional status.
  • Life Support Management: Maintain, troubleshoot, and monitor complex life-saving equipment, including ventilators and bedside monitors.
  • Medication Administration: Safely calculate, administer, and titrate potent vasoactive and sedative drips.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Participate in daily nurse-driven, physician-led rounds to review patient progress and optimize care delivery.
  • Family Communication: Act as a liaison between the medical team and patients' families, explaining procedures, updates, and care goals with deep compassion.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (ADN, BSN, or MSN).
  • License: Current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Experience: Minimum of 18 months of recent RN experience in an acute care setting required.
  • Certifications: BLS required within 90 days of hire; ACLS required within 1 year of hire (Critical Care/IMCU).
