General Summary:

The Collegiate Nursing Care Technician (CCT) position at Bayhealth is designed for student nurses in a nursing program who have successfully completed at least one semester of a medical/surgical clinical rotation. The position is year-round and offers exposure and experience in an acute care setting, preparing candidates for a career as a professional nurse. The CCT position is similar to the certified nurse assistant with duties including basic patient care, vital signs, blood glucose testing, hygiene, assistance with ADL's and comfort measures, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Department team members are authorized to have limited access to secured medication rooms to perform duties and responsibilities as defined in this job description. Any staff member requiring limited access to secured medication rooms must have a fully completed and signed Medication Security Agreement for Non-Licensed Personnel form on file and available upon request.

Responsibilities:

  • Follows plan of care established by the Registered Nurse within a specified timeframe; including, but not limited to, mouth care, bathing, AM and PM care, assistance with ambulation, transfers to chair and/or bed, taking and documenting vital signs, and recording accurate intake and output. Documents all patient care delivered according to established policies and procedures
  • Under the direction of a Registered Nurse duties such as non-sterile dressing changes, wound irrigation, foley catheter irrigation, application of ace wraps, IV access removal, bladder scans, EKG's, the application of telemetry monitoring may be assigned.
  • Performs duties with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on the assigned units
  • Communicate relevant patient information to a professional nurse within appropriate time based on level of urgency. Reports problems immediately to a professional nurse
  • Answer intercom or call lights in a timely, courteous manner, with appropriate communication to patient and/or professional nurse.
  • Performs patient care based on established guidelines to diagnostic and therapeutic exams; i.e., NPO for labs or xrays, OR, diet changes related to tests, enema-related tests.
  • Assists other members of nursing team and/or ancillary departments as requested
  • All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:

  • Education: Associate Degree or High School Diploma / GED Must be actively enrolled in a registered nurse program with a planned graduation date within three (3) years -- Active enrollment in RN program will be verified directly with the school.
  • Credential(s): Basic Life Support BLS
  • Experience: Must be actively enrolled in a registered nurse program with a planned graduation date within three (3) years.

Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience:

  • Education: Additional healthcare education / training
  • Credential(s): Certified Nursing Assistant CNA
  • Experience: Healthcare work experience. Two semesters experience providing basic care to patients in a clinical setting.
