Job description

Responsibilities
**This position is for upcoming work and is contingent upon task award/funding.
** This will be an onsite position at Fort Belvoir, VA.
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to support a dynamic government contracting program in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Modeling and Simulation (M&S) with a strong focus on conventional weapons effects, vulnerability analysis, and systems engineering process management. In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert contributing to the full systems engineering lifecycle, driving technical rigor across analyses of alternatives, trade studies, and predictive capability assessments. This is a high-impact position that directly supports critical defense program objectives through technically sound analysis, cross-functional integration, and stakeholder communication.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct vulnerability analysis and exploitation assessments, applying conventional weapons effects models to evaluate system performance and survivability across a range of operational scenarios.
  • Lead and execute analyses of alternatives (AoA) and trade-off analyses to inform design decisions, requirements development, and program risk management.
  • Develop and maintain the Systems Engineering (SE) process framework and master schedule, ensuring alignment with program milestones, deliverables, and government customer expectations.
  • Perform gap analyses to identify deficiencies in current modeling and simulation capabilities, tools, and methodologies, and propose actionable solutions to close identified gaps.
  • Apply uncertainty analysis techniques to quantify and communicate design margins, confidence levels, and predictive capability limits to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Assess predictive capabilities of design limits and margins, providing data-driven recommendations to support engineering decisions and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Serve as a key integrator for cross-program communications, facilitating coordination between engineering teams, program offices, and government sponsors to ensure technical coherence and schedule adherence.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline; advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive systems engineering experience, with demonstrated expertise in Modeling and Simulation environments.
  • Hands-on experience with conventional weapons effects models and associated simulation toolsets used in defense or national security contexts.
  • Proven experience conducting vulnerability analysis, AoA, gap analysis, and trade-off studies within a DoD or government contracting framework.
  • Strong proficiency in uncertainty quantification and statistical analysis methodologies applied to complex engineering systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage SE master schedules and technical baselines in compliance with DoW standards (e.g., MIL-STD, DoDAF).
  • US Citizen with an Active Top Secret / SCI security clearance (required at time of application)

Desired Qualifications
  • Preferred experience with rapid capability development and acquisition, relevant military operations, or technology transition from R&D to fielding.
  • Familiarity with JMEM, AMSAA, or other weapons effectiveness and lethality modeling frameworks used within the DoW community.
  • Experience with digital engineering tools and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) platforms such as Cameo, DOORS, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience supporting OSD, DARPA, ARL, or service-level acquisition programs in a senior technical advisory capacity.
  • INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or equivalent professional certification.
