Job description

Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh – a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Fort Knox prioritizes being a strong contributor to the State and local communities, and since 2001, has helped support more than 300 community partners and has contributed more than US$25 million to the Alaska Mental Health Trust.

Job Summary

Candidate exhibits strong mechanical and technical skills. Assists with pad lay-out, pipe fusing and pump maintenance. Has strong background in metal fabrication; welding, cutting, etc. Checks flow rates, pressures and pump performance, with well-developed troubleshooting skills. Will operate equipment such as dozers, loaders, skid-steers and excavators. Maintains a clean work area. Must comply with all company safety regulations, operation requirements, and efficiency levels while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Essential Functions
  • 1.    Responsible for repair and maintenance of pumping and piping systems. 
    2.    Designs and constructs heap leach pads including road building, piping and drip tube installation.
    3.    Responsible for welding/fabrication projects including pipe welding.
    4.    Performs equipment walk around, inspects and operates equipment.
    5.    Must be willing to learn to operate heavy equipment including excavators, front-end loaders and dozers. Experience preferred.
    6.    Perform ground and facility maintenance including but not limited to snow removal and general cleanup.
    7.    Perform small equipment and machine checks and repairs.
    8.    Punctuality and regular attendance are required. 
    9.    Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
    10.    Exhibits excellent teamwork skills
    11.    Possession of a valid driver license issued by the state.
    12.    Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
    13.    Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
    14.    Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements

1.    High school diploma or equivalent preferred.  Employee must have sufficient education to read and write, perform simple mathematics, and maintain neat and accurate records.
2.    Experience in building, site, and shop maintenance/cleanup preferred.
3.    Experience operating small equipment such as forklifts, skid-steers, and loaders preferred.
4.    Ability to work without constant, direct supervision.
5.    Involves lifting and moving various materials in weights up to 50 or more pounds, climbing up and down stairs, and working in an outdoors environment.
6.    Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions required.
7.    Must have solid verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read and understand repair manuals.
8.    Must be available to work holidays and weekends.
