Job description

Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh - a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Fort Knox prioritizes being a strong contributor to the State and local communities, and since 2001, has helped support more than 300 community partners and has contributed more than US$25 million to the Alaska Mental Health Trust.

JobSummary

Safe and efficient operation of mine equipment. Beginning equipment operators will operate haulage units to transport and dump ore, waste rock, and other materials with the ability to work to finish. Work is performed in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) and the instructions received from the supervisor.

Essential Functions
  •    Operate all equipment in accordance with SOP and supervisor instruction to achieve production goals.
       Visually inspect the high wall, haul roads, and dumps for ground stability and hazards and report problems.
       Promote safety by communicating with haul road traffic about the location of equipment and hazards.
       Check, monitor, and inspect equipment during pre-operation, inspection, and while operating.
       Perform and document walk around and pre-shift inspections in addition to monitoring instrument gauges frequently.
       Must be able to troubleshoot equipment and perform minor maintenance as needed.
       Maintains radio contact with co-workers and supervisors for operating and safety instructions.
       Record all load types and locations hauled in addition to their sources and destinations.
       Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
       Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
       Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
       Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
       Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct hazards.
       Works without significant risk of harm to self or others.
       Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors
Qualifications and Skill Requirements

   High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
   General background in heavy equipment operation preferred.
   Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
   Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the physical demands sheets.
   Ability to work with others in a team environment in addition to work without constant supervision.
   Must be able to do shift work, overtime, and work holidays and weekends.
   Progression through wage scale is contingent upon satisfactory completion of attached checklists.
