Job description

Job Title: In-House Attorney (Contracts, Business & Litigation)

Location: Hybrid/In-Person (Preferred)

 Employment Type: Full-Time 

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and business-minded In-House Attorney to provide legal counsel and support for two mission-driven organizations:

  • Harmony Fresh Seafoods – A growing salmon jerky company committed to producing premium, sustainably sourced seafood products.

  • Soterra – A nonprofit organization dedicated to providing transitional housing and supportive services for individuals in recovery and or who have experienced homelessness.

This is a unique dual-role opportunity for an attorney who enjoys working in both the private and nonprofit sectors. The ideal candidate will be a trusted legal advisor who can proactively manage legal risk while helping both organizations grow and fulfill their missions.

Key Responsibilities

Contracts & Commercial Law

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide variety of contracts, including:

    • Vendor and supplier agreements

    • Customer contracts

    • Employment agreements

    • Independent contractor agreements

    • Service agreements

    • Non-disclosure agreements (NDAs)

    • Licensing and partnership agreements

  • Ensure all contracts protect organizational interests and comply with applicable laws.

Business & Corporate Counsel

  • Provide day-to-day legal guidance to executive leadership.

  • Advise on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and business strategy.

  • Support risk management initiatives and develop internal legal policies.

  • Assist with employment law issues, HR matters, and workplace compliance.

  • Provide legal oversight for organizational growth, expansion, and strategic partnerships.

Litigation Management

  • Manage disputes, claims, and legal proceedings.

  • Coordinate with outside counsel when litigation arises.

  • Develop litigation strategies and oversee legal budgets.

  • Respond to demand letters and regulatory inquiries.

  • Minimize legal exposure through proactive legal planning.

Nonprofit Legal Support

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state nonprofit regulations.

  • Advise on governance, board responsibilities, and nonprofit best practices.

  • Review grant agreements and funding contracts.

  • Support legal matters related to transitional housing and social service operations.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

  • Active license to practice law in the applicable state.

  • Minimum of 5–10 years of legal experience, with significant experience in:

    • Contract law

    • Business and corporate law

    • Litigation management

  • Experience serving as in-house counsel is strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of employment law, regulatory compliance, and risk management.

  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across two organizations in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with food manufacturing, seafood, agriculture, or consumer products.

  • Experience advising nonprofit organizations, housing programs, or healthcare/recovery services.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice.

  • Comfortable working independently with executive leadership and boards of directors.
