Job description

Job Title: In-House Accountant Company: Willow River Company Location: Hudson, WI Position Type: Full-Time
About Us
Willow River Company is a rapidly growing landscaping and green-industry business based in Hudson, Wisconsin. We pride ourselves on operational excellence, high-end craftsmanship, and building a stellar team. As we continue to expand our commercial and residential operations, we are looking for a sharp, detail-oriented In-House Accountant to take ownership of our daily financial workflows, job costing, and reporting.
Position Summary
We are looking for someone who understands more than just debits and credits-someone who can connect the numbers to real-world field operations, equipment utilization, and labor margins. Working closely with company leadership, you will manage day-to-day accounting functions, streamline financial tracking, and provide clear insights to help drive strategic growth.
Key Responsibilities
  • General Ledger & Daily Accounting: Manage accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), bank reconciliations, and credit card postings with high accuracy.
  • Job Costing & Project Tracking: Track actual labor, material, and equipment costs against project estimates to ensure healthy margins across our service and installation lines.
  • Month-End Close: Perform month-end reconciliations, manage accruals, and assist in preparing accurate monthly financial statements.
  • Payroll & Compliance: Oversee payroll processing, track multi-employee time and allocations, and ensure compliance with state and local tax regulations.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Generate financial reports and cash-flow trackers to provide leadership with actionable data for weekly operational and strategic decisions.
  • Process Improvement: Help optimize internal financial controls, software integrations (such as QuickBooks and industry platforms), and administrative workflows as the business scales.
What We're Looking For
  • Experience: 2+ years of professional accounting, bookkeeping, or project cost accounting experience. (Background or strong familiarity with the construction, landscaping, or service trades is a huge plus).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks and modern accounting platforms; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Mindset: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive. You enjoy solving problems, catching discrepancies before they become issues, and working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with field crews, management, vendors, and clients.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience ($60,000 - $80,000+ range, depending on background).
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • A collaborative, dynamic work culture where your contributions directly impact company growth.

Willow River Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
