We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Boxing Coach to train, mentor, and develop athletes in both technical boxing skills and personal character. This role extends beyond physical instruction-the ideal candidate will serve as a positive role model, fostering discipline, accountability, trust, and a strong work ethic while mentoring young men and women through the sport of boxing.
POSITION DETAILS
Job Title: Fitness Instructor - Boxing Coach
Location: Gypsum Recreation Center (Gypsum, CO)
Schedule: Part-Time; Year-Round
Work Environment: The work schedule is varied and includes weekday hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays. It requires consistent attendance for short shifts. The flow of work and duties involve regular mental and visual attention. Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending, lifting, pulling, and kneeling. The role is performed in a performance-type setting and can be physically demanding. Constant use of the voice is required. Job stress may involve managing crowds, uncooperative participants, difficult individuals, and periods of continuous demand.
Supervision Required: Works under the direct supervision of the Gypsum Recreation Center Facility Coordinator
Supervision Exercised: None
Salary: $25.00-$35.00/hour; staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual and can pass the language competency test.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Statement of Duties: Develop and lead safe, engaging, and inclusive boxing training sessions that promote physical conditioning, technical skill development, discipline, and overall well-being. Instruct participants in proper boxing techniques, footwork, conditioning, and safety practices while providing motivational coaching in a positive, supportive environment. Support athletes in achieving both personal fitness and performance goals, making the sport of boxing accessible, challenging, and rewarding for participants of all experience levels.
Examples of Duties:
Coaching & Training
  • Plan and lead safe, effective, and engaging boxing training sessions for athletes of varying ages and skill levels
  • Instruct proper boxing fundamentals, including stance, footwork, punching technique, defense, conditioning, and basic strategy
  • Provide individualized instruction and constructive feedback to support skill development, confidence, and performance
  • Prepare athletes for competition when applicable, emphasizing sportsmanship and readiness

Mentorship & Leadership
  • Serve as a positive mentor and role model, promoting discipline, respect, accountability, and perseverance
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with athletes that support both athletic and personal growth
  • Encourage teamwork, resilience, and character development inside and outside the gym
  • Maintain a structured, respectful, and motivating training environment

Program & Facility Support
  • Ensure boxing equipment is used properly and maintained in a safe, organized condition
  • Assist with gym setup, breakdown, and general cleanliness
  • Monitor athlete safety and consistently enforce gym rules and program standards
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with staff, parents, and program leadership as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of boxing techniques, training principles, and conditioning methods
  • Experience as a boxing coach, trainer, or competitive boxer
  • Ability to effectively coach athletes of varying ages, skill levels, and backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor young men and women with patience, integrity, and strong leadership skills
  • Commitment to teaching and reinforcing discipline, accountability, hard work, and respect through the sport of boxing

Skills and abilities:
  • Demonstrates a positive, motivating, and professional demeanor
  • Possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect effectively with diverse participants
  • Dependable, punctual, and well-organized, with strong time-management skills

Requirements:
Education and experience:
  • Minimum 18 years of age or older; AND
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with youth and/or community-based programs
  • Background in strength and conditioning or sports performance training
  • Competition coaching experience preferred

Certifications:
  • USA Boxing certification or equivalent (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe)
  • May require possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
