Duties and Responsibilities

The System Administrator supports this Transportation Security Administration Information Technology (TSA IT) Task Order (TO) by managing and administrating all physical testing platform assets, enterprise Information Assurance & Cybersecurity Division (IAD) toolsets, and vulnerability identification platforms. Duties include the following:

  • Manages all installations on IAD and system components, laptops, and virtual machines.
  • Conducts testing platform and application administration activities including SME support, installation, deployment, configuration, reporting, and maintenance.
  • Ensures all updates (operating system, software, firmware, BIOS, et., are tested to ensure that they do not hinder the expected operation of the testing platform.
  • Ensures all updates are applied on all IAD testing platform assets.
  • Implements a process which will enable reimaging of each laptop.
  • Performs hardware health checks to confirm the operational status of all laptops and virtual machines.
  • Coordinates with the administration team of the affected virtual machine to either troubleshoot the issue, or to get the virtual machines replaced.
  • Troubleshoots any issues affecting IAD testing platform laptops which prevent their successful use in security engagements.
  • Supports testing platform administration activities of a non-standard nature as they are identified to provide a benefit to IAD's security testing requirements.
  • Completes maintenance, tracking, and recording of IAD SIVM assets including, but are not limited to, testing laptops, software licenses, external hard drives, MiFi devices, switches/hubs for testing, virtual machines hosting testing tools, and assets received for testing/evaluation.

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • At least ten (10) years of technical IT security experience.
  • At least three (3) years of experience performing Windows and GNU/Linux operating system configuration.
  • At least three (3) years of application administration or other O&M tasks.
  • At least three (3) years of IT experience involved with IT asset management.
  • At least one (1) years of experience maintaining assets as part of a Federal IT FISMA system.
  • At least one (1) year of experience maintaining assets that are part of a Classified system.
  • At least five (5) years of experience providing Tier 3 support for Tenable.sc, RedSeal, and other Nessus products.
  • Ability to work independently/minimal oversight.
  • Required Certifications: CISSP, CEH or other relevant certifications.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and technical writing skills to be able to document findings in reports.
  • Excellent communication skills to be able to understand concepts being verbally presented, participate in group discussions, and to present recommendations.
  • Experience with deployment, configuration, and maintenance of Tenable.sc, Nessus Manager, Nessus Vulnerability Scanner, Nessus Network Monitor, and RedSeal.
  • Familiarity with account management, user role management, user dashboard creation & maintenance, user report generation support, troubleshooting of user-related issues, application performance monitoring, and application storage monitoring.
  • Experience with virtualization and imaging processes and procedures, updating, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Fluent in the OWASP Top 10 weaknesses, NIST and FIPS security controls, DISA STIGs, and CIS standards.
