About the Job:
The Area Manager is responsible for cultivating a group of customer-focused, sales driven, profitable and productive retail stores across a small geographical Area within a Region. The Area Manager leads teams by exhibiting passion for product, brands, fashion and trends. The AM is directly responsible for meeting all financial and expense goals, all aspects of visual presentation and operational functions of their own store and supports their Area's stores in meeting the same goals. The AM maintains all responsibilities as a member of their "Home Store" team and also serves as a leader among peers to influence, motivate and inspire the Regional team. Ultimately, the AM provides a rewarding employee experience and exceptional customer experience every day in multiple locations.
A day in the life, what you'll be doing:
Core Accountabilities:
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, develops, retains, and promotes relevant top talent; those with a passion for the product and the brands that we sell
  • Interviews all Store Management and Key Holder candidates for the Area
  • Actively develops, supports and promotes Store and Assistant Store Managers to larger volume tier stores or next-step roles.
  • Participates in Talent Review process for the Area and makes succession planning recommendations to District Manager, Regional HR Manager and Regional Director
  • Creates a network in order to build and maintain a pipeline of talent (Sales Associate and above)
  • Works with Store Managers in assigned Area to identify high-potential internal and external talent and strategically align bench strength within Area, District and Region
  • Assesses talent skill gaps and opportunities in the stores within scope and partners with Store Managers in making effective hiring decisions
  • Supports and/or executes company training and development programs for all direct reports
  • Conducts frequent career coaching conversations with all direct reports and store teams
  • Owns Performance Management for Store Management in the Area in partnership with the Regional Leadership team
  • Recognizes and celebrates individual and team achievements
  • Provides an "open door" where team members are free to express their concerns and ideas
  • Inspires, motivates and influences peers and others by exhibiting core value behaviors at all times

Selling
  • Executes the company's Field Mission; drives results and maximizes business opportunities within his or her scope of responsibility
  • Trains and coaches Triple A Selling behavior in all locations; ensures an engaging, positive and authentic connection with all Customers
  • Sells and acts as Sales Leader as a regular part of the Home Store schedule
  • Coaches Store Managers in the Area on teaching and inspiring Triple A Selling
  • Sells side-by-side during peak business with all store teams
  • Cultivates a culture that anticipates and determines Customer needs and "solves for yes" to ensure customer satisfaction in all locations
  • Effectively addresses all Customer complaints for the Area and turns situations into teaching moments for Store Management and Associates
  • Effectively manages schedule to impact the business during critical selling periods and inspects Zone Sheets for all Area stores
  • Effectively manages his or her schedule and distorts time appropriately for short and long-term business impact throughout the Area
  • Controls and influences sales plans, drives profitability and manages expenses
  • Steps in and supports Triple A Selling as needed
  • Evaluates sales and payroll results on a daily basis using key business reports and tools; develops plans to improve when necessary
  • Monitors scheduling and payroll within his or her scope of responsibility
  • Holds self and others responsible for the accomplishment of all KPI goals
  • Implements and enforces all updates and changes of company policies and procedures
  • Promotes and motivates store management to participate in company contests and events

Merchandising
  • Ensures proper execution of all visual and marketing initiatives in all stores
  • Addresses and resolves Customer and associate questions and issues in a timely manner
  • Provides feedback to Regional Team regarding store and Customer opportunities
  • Knows market demographics and can speak to competition
  • Encourages stores and managers to participate in local community initiatives to drive brand awareness and create loyalty

Operations
  • Operates as part of the Home Store's regular schedule
  • Implements and enforces all updates and changes of company policies and procedures
  • Achieve pre-determined payroll budgets and shrink goals for the Home Store and influences results in Area stores
  • Ensures all associates adhere to the company's Personal Appearance Guidelines
  • Provide training and guidance to management in store operations
  • Holds teams and individuals accountable to all timelines, deadlines and compliance standards
  • Monitors and approves expenses and mileage as necessary

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ability to work the required schedule

What it takes to Join:
Education/Experience Required:
  • Four-year college degree preferred
  • Effective written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Experience as a leader within a specific division of responsibility in his or her work group
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Proven ability to drive sales results
  • Proven track record of promoting talent and ability to build winning teams
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to interpret all policies and procedures to resolve customer and associate issues
  • Flexible with schedule (able to work weekends, nights, peak holiday periods)
  • Proficient in math and possesses strong computer skills
  • Minimum five years retail management experience
  • Ability to relocate preferred

  • Required to travel in elevator or stairwells to attend meetings and engage with associates on multiple floors throughout building.
  • Hotel, Airplane, and Car Travel may be required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. As a National Retailer, occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required during periods of high volume. This role operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
