Job description

CTG is seeking to fill an IMS Systems Programmer position for our client. This role is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, support, and optimization of IBM IMS environments on IBM z/OS mainframes. Ensures high availability, performance, reliability, and security of IMS database and transaction processing systems supporting mission-critical enterprise applications.

Location: Phoenix, AZ metro area (Hybrid working model)
Duration: 6 months with option to convert after 6 months
Citizenship: U.S. Citizens, Green Card Holders (Permanent Residents), and other EAD holders (no visa-dependent candidates)

Key Responsibilities:

  • IMS Database (IMS DB) and IMS Transaction Manager (IMS TM/DC) installation, configuration, upgrades, and support
  • Performance tuning of IMS regions, buffers, logging, and transaction throughput
  • Monitoring subsystem health, capacity, and availability across IMS environments
  • Troubleshooting complex IMS, z/OS, and application connectivity issues
  • Supporting IMS components including DBRC, OTMA, IMS Connect, and Shared Queues
  • Applying maintenance and upgrades using SMP/E and vendor tools
  • Supporting backup/recovery, disaster recovery, and high availability strategies
  • Collaborating with DBAs, application teams, and z/OS infrastructure engineers
  • Developing automation and support scripts using JCL, REXX, or CLIST
  • Supporting security, compliance, and operational audit requirements
  • Participating in on-call production support rotation

Skills:

  • Strong IBM IMS (DB and TM/DC) systems programming experience
  • Strong working knowledge of IBM z/OS mainframe environments
  • Experience with SMP/E maintenance and software lifecycle management
  • Knowledge of IMS components (DBRC, OTMA, IMS Connect, Shared Queues)
  • Strong IMS performance tuning and troubleshooting skills
  • Proficiency in JCL and scripting (REXX/CLIST or equivalent)
  • Understanding of high availability and disaster recovery architectures
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities

Experience:

  • 5+ years of IMS Systems Programming experience in enterprise mainframe environments
  • Experience supporting large-scale, high-volume IMS production systems

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
