OVERVIEW
Responsible for day-to-day export compliance activities for all U.S. Safariland locations, with a focus on day-to-day export and import compliance and decision-making related to border crossings between Safariland US and Safariland Tijuana, Mexico. Assist all Safariland Group locations with export compliance issues, when needed. Review orders for export compliance requirements. Obtain export licenses. Understanding of classification principles according to export regulations. Interface with internal/external customers and help resolve any issues that may arise. Ensure up-to-date compliance processes and procedures are followed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs daily review of US/MX border crossing shipments.
  • Ensure proper tariff numbers are assigned.
  • Assign tariff numbers to new parts.
  • Review of import entries to ensure compliance with US CBP regulations.
  • Ensure required records are kept in accordance with CBP recordkeeping requirements and company policies.
  • Submit US CBP binding ruling requests, where needed.
  • USMCA knowledge in area of qualifications and analysis
  • Assist management in addressing US government questions or inquiries (i.e. CBP 28)
  • Work with Safariland Tijuana export/import specialist where the need arises.
  • Review EEI/AES filings for shipments from the US to Tijuana. Work with broker if any corrections are required.
  • Assist with annual review and update of compliance manual and procedures.
  • Work with engineering, when required, to assign proper tariff classifications.
  • Assist in audit activities related to Safariland border crossing operations.
  • Remain knowledgeable about regulations by keeping abreast of regulatory and procedural changes.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Degree or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree in International Business, or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in US import environment. US/MX experience a plus.
  • Must have fluent comprehension, verbal, and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Must be proficient at tariff classification, fully understanding the General Rules of Interpretation (GRI). Experience in MX tariff schedule a plus.
  • Strong trade agreement qualification skillset (i.e. USMCA)
  • Ability to identify and analyze issues; suggest solutions.
  • Maquiladora/Border operations experience is preferred.
  • USMCA Analysis.
  • Background in U.S. Export Regulations preferred (EAR and CCL).
  • General knowledge of EEI/AES compliance. (15 CFR part 30)
  • Working knowledge Microsoft AX and Microsoft D365 is a plus.
  • Strong and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work at both detail and strategic levels.
  • Ability to effectively work with all levels of the organization.
  • Project management skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (high proficiency in Excel is a plus)
