The Supply Chain department creates value for Makita and its customers by planning inventory to efficiently meet customer demand while maximizing the effective use of company resources. The Import/Export Specialist supports Supply Chain operations by coordinating and tracking international shipments, managing customs and export documentation, handling order management, Importer Security Filings (ISF), performing data entry, and communicating with customs brokers, carriers, customers, and internal stakeholders. This role also supports export compliance activities, including Electronic Export Information (EEI) filing processes.

  • Review shipping documentation for accuracy and maintain shipment records using Makita's ERP system and SharePoint.
  • Receive, process, and manage sample shipments in a warehouse environment; support engineering and product development teams with sample order fulfillment and exports.
  • Review and process export orders for affiliated Makita companies and prepare required export documentation.
  • Submit Importer Security Filings (ISF) for ocean imports into the United States.
  • Track and monitor inbound shipments, providing shipment status updates, supporting accurate arrival information within Makita's ERP system.
  • Prepare Section 232 and Partner Government Agency (PGA) declaration data to support customs entry processing.
  • Review HTS classifications, customs entry documentation, and import/export regulatory requirements to support accurate customs processing and trade compliance.
  • Assist with Electronic Export Information (EEI) filing activities and export compliance requirements.
  • Monitor courier and customs clearance exceptions and coordinate resolution with brokers, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Review, audit, and process freight and customs brokerage invoices; investigate and resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Extract, compile, and distribute trade compliance reports using the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system.
  • Maintain accurate shipment, customs, and compliance records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, customers, and internal departments to support timely shipment processing.

Skills Required:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience using ERP systems.
  • Initiative-taker who takes pride in their performance and its impact on the company’s success.
  • Able to use Microsoft Office 365 products, including extensive use of Microsoft Teams and Excel. Including use of pivot tables, lookups, and other formulas.  Experience with VBA or Power BI a plus.

Education and/or Experience Desired:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this role.

  • 2-4 years’ experience in a related supply chain field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited university, or additional related work experience.
  • Supply Chain or related field preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This position works in a hybrid environment and must use software and tools to communicate with others while working remotely. The work is fast-paced, focused on continuous improvement and continuous learning while operating under high demand/volume. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers, etc.
