Job description

Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta is recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar to join an interdisciplinary research program focused on technology-enabled models of care for individuals living with chronic disease and those preparing for major procedures.

Working with a collaborative team led by Dr. Puneeta Tandon and Dr. Ashley Hyde, the Postdoctoral Scholar will contribute to the evaluation, implementation, and optimization of personalized digital and hybrid care pathways in cardiac rehabilitation and prehabilitation. The program emphasizes user experience, engagement, personalization, wearable-enabled assessment, and real-world deployment within existing clinical workflows.

This position offers strong opportunities for first-author publications, grant writing, student mentorship, and career development, and is well-suited to candidates pursuing academic or health-system research careers in digital health, rehabilitation science, or implementation science.

  • PhD completed within the last five years (or near completion) in Health Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, Kinesiology, Cardiac Sciences, Public Health, Health Informatics, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Experience with digital or technology-enabled health interventions (e.g., tele-rehabilitation, remote monitoring, mobile health).
  • Experience using REDCap for data capture, survey design, and workflow tracking.
  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills (e.g., R, Python, SPSS, or similar), including experience with clinical or behavioral datasets.
  • Proficiency in qualitative research methods (e.g., interviews, focus groups, thematic analysis).
  • Demonstrated ability to produce peer-reviewed publications.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.
  • Experience in Implementation Science is an asset.

The terms and conditions of this appointment are governed by the Collective Agreement between the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta and the Postdoctoral Fellows Association of the University of Alberta.

  • Lead research on the evaluation and implementation of personalized digital health interventions, informed by behavior change and implementation science frameworks.
  • Examine user experience, engagement, and adherence among patients and clinicians participating in digital health interventions across different clinical populations, including prehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation, and other chronic disease self-management.
  • Analyze wearable-derived data (e.g., physical activity, sleep, heart rate) in combination with survey and clinical data to characterize functional recovery, frailty, and engagement patterns over time.
  • Conduct usability testing and mixed-methods evaluations (e.g., surveys, interviews, engagement analytics) to inform optimization of digital health interventions
  • Coordinate clinical and implementation studies, including ethics submissions, protocol development, trial logistics, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Lead quantitative and/or mixed-methods analyses and contribute to first-author manuscripts, conference presentations, and grant applications.
  • Mentor graduate students and contribute to lab-wide research, training, and knowledge-translation activities.
