A growing manufacturing organization in Eastern North Carolina is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead site-wide environmental, health, and safety programs while fostering a proactive safety culture across the facility.

This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact by driving regulatory compliance, reducing risk, strengthening safety performance, and partnering with operational leadership to support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization.

Position Summary

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for partnering with site leadership and operations teams to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.

This role will lead site EHS initiatives, manage regulatory compliance programs, oversee environmental permitting activities, and support the implementation of strategic EHS objectives that align with overall business goals.

Key Responsibilities

EHS Leadership & Culture

  • Promote and lead a proactive safety-first culture throughout the facility.
  • Partner with plant leadership, managers, and employees to strengthen safety engagement and accountability.
  • Drive cultural change initiatives that improve safety awareness, participation, and overall performance.
  • Lead EHS communication efforts and champion continuous improvement initiatives.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to operational and leadership teams regarding EHS requirements.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with regulatory agencies and local authorities.
  • Support and manage site compliance programs, audits, inspections, and reporting activities.

Environmental Management

  • Manage environmental permits and compliance activities, including:

  • Stormwater management
  • Wastewater compliance
  • Hazardous waste management
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring, reporting, and regulatory submissions.

Incident Investigation & Corrective Actions

  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor effectiveness of corrective measures and ensure sustainable solutions.
  • Strengthen reporting processes and promote a culture of transparency and accountability.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop, implement, and maintain site emergency response programs and emergency action plans.
  • Coordinate emergency drills and preparedness exercises.
  • Train employees and emergency response teams on emergency procedures and response protocols.

Training & Employee Development

  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, and management teams.
  • Ensure compliance with required training and certification programs.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives related to workplace safety and environmental responsibility.

Capital Projects & Contractor Safety

  • Support EHS aspects of capital improvement projects.
  • Review operational and equipment changes from an EHS perspective prior to implementation.
  • Manage contractor qualification, onboarding, and safety compliance requirements.
  • Ensure contractors follow established safety standards while on site.

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in one of the following or a related field:

  • Engineering
  • Environmental Science
  • Industrial Hygiene
  • Occupational Health & Safety
  • Chemistry
  • Environmental Health
  • Technical or scientific discipline

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of Environmental, Health & Safety experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience managing regulatory compliance programs and EHS systems.
  • Proven success leading safety and environmental improvement initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar professional certification.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • OSHA regulations
  • EPA regulations
  • NFPA standards
  • Experience utilizing EHS management systems and data analytics tools.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive change without direct authority.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
