Job description

Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Communicates Associate. An employee in this position coordinates the day-to-day internal and external communications on WCRC channels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

The job duties listed are typical examples of the work performed by an employee in this position. These examples do not include all the duties which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Manages day-to-day road work communications including drafting and emailing road advisories, compiling weekly road work schedule, updating web pages.
  • Coordinates with the engineering and operations departments on construction project communications including planning public meetings, drafting and mailing letters/postcards to impacted residents, updating project web pages, hosting/attending virtual/in-person public meetings, etc. Provides assistance with video editing for these events.
  • Collaborates with WCRC departments to develop and update postings on various social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
  • Provides front-line customer service support for the organization including answering calls from the road commission's main line, greeting visitors to WCRC's lobby, monitoring WCRC's general email inbox, sorting incoming mail, operating two-way radio to communicate with field staff, etc.
  • Monitors WCRC's service request system daily, including entering service requests, following up with citizens as needed, assisting/training co-workers, etc.
  • Assists the communications manager to implement a strategic communication plan to advance WCRC brand identity and broaden awareness of its programs, priorities and accomplishments.
  • Coordinates WCRC's participation in various community events including paint-a-plow, big truck events and parades.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of at least an associate degree in English, journalism, communications, public relations, political science, related field or its equivalent.
  • Two years of administrative support and/or communications.
