Job description

The Behavioral Intervention Implementation Associate (BII) plays a significant role in supporting students with disabilities by providing individualized behavioral and instructional support within an inclusive classroom environment. This team member supports in fostering students’ independence, social-emotional growth, and academic success through positive behavior intervention techniques and a collaborative approach with teachers, specialists, and families. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting instruction for individual students or small groups with special needs as assigned

  • Assist students in prescribed learning activities

  • Monitor student behavior and apply approved behavior management techniques to redirect and modify challenging behaviors

  • Deliver one-on-one Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)-based interventions as outlined in student plans

  • Implement therapy plans developed by Behavior Intervention and Education Specialists

  • Observe, record, and report behavioral data in accordance with established procedures

  • Maintain confidentiality and positive, professional relationships with students, staff, and families

  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the success of all students

  • Monitoring student behavior and utilizing approved behavior management techniques to redirect and modify inappropriate behaviors

  • Administering one-on-one ABA-based Intensive Behavior Intervention methods to designated students in a school setting (as necessary)

  • Implementing documented therapy plans for Behavior Intervention treatment.

  • Assist teachers during the school day with instruction, oversight, and supervision of students

  • Provide adaptive support with eating and toileting

  • Performing additional related tasks as needed.

Required

  • Associate’s degree or completion of two years of college coursework (minimum of 48 semester units)

  • One year experience or volunteer experience working students with disabilities, including students with autism

  • Training and experience implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other behavior intervention techniques

Preferred

  • Experience in school-based settings supporting diverse learners

  • BII or RBT certification (Registered Behavior Technician)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and can-do attitude.

Citizens of the World Los Angeles is committed to equitable and consistent compensation practices. Placement on the School Support Staff Salary Schedule is determined by each candidate's verified, directly relevant professional experience and qualifications applicable to the position.
How We Determine Hourly Rates: 

  • Verified, relevant experience in comparable student support roles (e.g., Behavior Interventionist, Student Support Associate, Instructional Aide, Teaching Associate, or similar positions).
  • Applicable credentials or enrollment in an approved credentialing program, where eligible.
  • All experience is reviewed and verified prior to salary placement.

Student Support Associate (SSA) Positions: 

Student Support Associates may qualify for placement on the Credentialed or In Credentialing Program salary columns if they:

  • Hold a qualifying California credential or professional license (e.g., Multiple Subject, Single Subject, Education Specialist, PPS, Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy), or
  • Actively enrolled in an approved credentialing program, including a graduate Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program, as outlined on the School Support Staff Salary Schedule.

Behavior Interventionist (BII) Positions: 

Behavior Interventionists are placed on the School Support Staff Salary Schedule based on verified, directly relevant experience. BII positions are compensated using the No Credential column of the salary schedule, regardless of whether a candidate holds a teaching credential or advanced degree. Compensation reflects the responsibilities and requirements of the BII position.

Additional Compensation (if applicable):

  • Lead Student Support Associate: +$1.00/hour
  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Certification: +$0.25/hour
