Impact Intern information

What is an impact intern?

An Impact Intern is a student or recent graduate who participates in an internship focused on making a positive social, environmental, or community impact. These internships are usually offered by non-profits, social enterprises, or companies with strong corporate social responsibility programs. Impact Interns often work on projects related to sustainability, education, health, or community development, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful causes. The role allows interns to develop valuable skills and build a professional network in the impact sector.

What types of projects might an impact intern work on, and how are these projects typically structured within an organization?

As an Impact Intern, you may be involved in projects that address social, environmental, or community-focused initiatives, such as organizing sustainability campaigns, supporting nonprofit outreach, or analyzing data to measure program effectiveness. These projects are often collaborative and cross-functional, meaning you'll likely work closely with full-time staff, other interns, and sometimes external partners. Interns are usually given clear objectives and mentorship, but are also encouraged to bring fresh ideas and take initiative. This role offers a chance to make tangible contributions while gaining insight into the operations and strategies of mission-driven organizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an impact intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Impact Intern, you generally need strong research, analytical, and project management skills, often supported by coursework in social sciences, business, or related fields. Familiarity with data analysis tools, survey platforms, and project management software like Excel, Qualtrics, or Trello is typically expected. Excellent communication, adaptability, and a passion for social impact help interns stand out in collaborative and mission-driven environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively contributing to projects, measuring impact, and supporting organizational goals.

We are looking for a University Recruiting Leader to evolve, drive, and implement our global early career strategy across programs, branding, and engagement. This is a high-impact, highly visible leadership role that demands strategic vision, operational excellence, and creativity to attract and encourage the next generation of talent. You will grow scalable programs and build meaningful connections that fuel our long-term talent pipeline.
What you'll be doing:
Leading our global Intern, New College Graduate, and Inclusion programs-focused on designing and delivering high-quality, scalable experiences that strengthen our early talent pipeline and reflect who we are as a company.
  • Lead and continue to develop a high-performing team responsible for early career programs, events, and engagement-fostering innovation, teamwork, and operational excellence.
  • Work collaboratively alongside internal groups to uphold our university recruiting brand and deliver compelling storytelling and regionally relevant social and digital strategies.
  • Own and evolve technical conference strategy-identifying priority events, optimizing our presence, and driving measurable impact across key early talent segments.
  • Partner closely with internal teams including Academic Relations, Developer Programs, Research, HRBPs and Marketing to align early talent recruiting initiatives with broader business priorities.
  • Use data and insights to operate with agility-rapidly evaluating program efficiency, iterating on engagement strategies in real time, and continuously improving outcomes across all pipelines.
  • Serve as a thought partner to senior leadership by bringing market insights, campus trends, and innovative ideas to continuously evolve our approach.

What we need to see:
  • 12+ years of experience in University Recruiting and Talent Acquisition, with 6+ years in a recruiting or HR leadership role. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Shown success crafting and scaling intern and new graduate programs in sophisticated or high-growth environments with multi-event portfolios and measurable ROI.
  • Experience developing and delivering employer branding strategies across multiple platforms.
  • Strong influencing and partnership skills, capable of collaborating across functions and levels.
  • Outstanding organizational and program management experience capable of leading multiple priorities at scale.

Ways to stand out from the crowd:
  • Experience leading global or multi-region university recruiting programs.
  • Background in employer branding, digital marketing, or early talent engagement campaigns.
  • Proven success crafting innovative, high-impact intern experiences that drive conversion and brand affinity.
  • Experience partnering with academic institutions to build long-term talent pipelines or curriculum-aligned programs.
  • Recognized for creativity, innovation, and the ability to bring new insights to life at scale.
