Immigration Specialist

Location(s): Windsor, CT (Hybrid), Chicago, IL (Hybrid), Jacksonville, FL (Hybrid), Fort Worth, TX (Hybrid), Atlanta, GA (Hybrid)

About the Role

SS&C Technologies is looking for an Immigration Specialist to join the North Americas HR Immigration Team supporting the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda & Cayman Islands.

The position is responsible for providing immigration support for new hires and current employees, inbound and outbound international employee transfers, and international employee business travel. The Immigration Specialist is also responsible for coordinating immigration business processes with outside immigration counsel for preparing visa applications, immigration paperwork, and related tasks. Position reports to Manager, HR Immigration Team.

How You Will Make an Impact

Onboarding Support:

  • Work closely with the talent acquisition team, onboarding team, and new hires through the onboarding process.

  • Assist F-1 students with completion of Form I-983 to maintain CPT/OPT work authorization status.

  • Manage right-to-work compliance by monitoring work authorization expiration dates, researching employee job changes for compliance, and performing periodic audits.

Immigration Support:

  • In partnership with outside immigration counsel, support immigration casework, including but not limited to United States: B-1/B-2, H-1B, F1, J-1, L-1A/B, TN, E-3, PERM, I-140 filing, I-485/AOS. Canada: ICT, C-20, PNP, GTS-LMBP. Mexico: TRV, TN. Bermuda & Cayman Islands work permits.

  • Prepare and research data for business unit staffing plans of foreign national workforce, including monthly immigration headcount report.

  • Communicate immigration requirements, government procedures, policy/process documentation, and case processing times to audiences like HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, employees and managers.

  • Assist with prioritizing and managing immigration timelines, including renewals and expiration dates for internal business unit approvals, as well as the annual US H-1B Cap lottery.

  • Assist with designing and developing immigration resources for managers, HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition team, and employees, including FAQs, internal policies, process documents and in-house training.

  • Responsible for other ad hoc immigration issues, as necessary, such as collecting business approvals, drafting travel support letters, and providing experience letters to former employees applying for green cards.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Organizational Communication, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum 1-3 years of business immigration work experience required, with a preference for IT or Financial Services industry.

  • Must have experience in managing full life cycle of United States H-1B, L-1A/L-1B, B-1/B-2, Permanent Resident/Green Card filings, and extension processes. Experience with work visa for other countries, including but not limited to Bermuda, Cayman, Canada, and Mexico preferred.

  • Meet assigned deadlines and communicate case progress/status/issues to supervisor.

  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and navigate confidentiality with transparency, address complex situations and communicate impact effectively, work effectively and collaboratively across functions.

  • Experience reviewing company policies and practices to determine appropriate action.

  • Strong critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills as well as conflict resolution skills, including the ability to negotiate and influence others.
