Job description

CTO Level Head of R&D and Engineering for a small and Growing CA based Tech-firm (stable-profitable company)

Fast‐growing U.S. company building advanced body‐imaging and scanning systems (similar to X‐ray, non‐medical) seeks a hands‐on Engineering CTO to lead technology strategy, product architecture, and multi‐disciplinary engineering teams. Systems include electrical, mechanical, embedded, imaging, and network‐connected components.

This role requires deep experience with X‐ray, body‐scanning, high‐energy imaging, or similar radiation‐based technologies.

What You’ll Lead:

  • Own the technical roadmap, system architecture, and engineering execution.
  • Drive development of next‐gen X‐ray/body‐scanning platforms, detectors, radiation sources, motion systems, and networked controls.
  • Oversee EE, ME, Firmware, Software, Systems Engineering, Test/Validation, and field engineering.
  • Implement strong engineering processes: design control, documentation, testing, release.
  • Partner with Operations and Manufacturing on DFM, reliability, and field performance.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. radiation safety and industrial equipment standards.

What You Bring

  • Senior Level engineering leadership in X‐ray, body‐scanning, NDT, security scanning, or high‐energy imaging.
  • Expertise in electromechanical systems, high‐voltage subsystems, detectors, imaging physics, and embedded/real‐time control.
  • Strong background in systems engineering and cross‐disciplinary integration.
  • Experience scaling engineering teams in a growth‐stage hardware company.
  • Proven delivery across full lifecycle: concept → prototype → validation → manufacturing → deployment.
  • Experience mentoring, training, guiding other engineers

Nice to Have

  • MS/PhD in EE, ME, Physics, Imaging Science, or related field.
  • Experience with DoD/DHS/security/industrial inspection systems.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML imaging, reconstruction, or automated detection.
