Summary:
The Imaging Intern conducts studies for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations under the direct supervision of an appropriately licensed and/or registered technologist as outlined by departmental competencies and their Clinical Training Program Agreement.
Echo Academy is a 12-month immersive program designed to develop the next generation of sonographers into skilled congenital cardiac imagers.
The program will provide:
*Foundational training in cardiac anatomy, physiology, and ultrasound principles with simulation practice
*Clinical rotations
*Direct placement into Pediatric Echocardiography role within our Heart Institute upon successful completion of program
Graduates are required to complete competencies and obtain pediatric certification to step directly into pediatric echocardiography roles within our Heart Institute.
Must work in their hired position for 2 years after program completion. Eligible for transfer after 1 yr. in same role without breaking contract.
Responsibilities:
Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits and reports scan results.Charges appropriately for all supplies used for procedure(s).Performs all patient related activities strictly under the direct supervision of an appropriately licensed and/or registered technologist.Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.Assists with preparation and administration of contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions.

Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Ability to adapt to a highly specialized learning environment focused on congenital heart disease across the lifespan.
Required Work Experience: No prior work experience required; prior experience in adult echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, maternal fetal medicine, or other ultrasound specialties preferred.
Other Information: Demonstrated interest in pediatric and congenital cardiac imaging and commitment to specialty skill development.Extern will obtain the following credentials prior to completion of program: Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) - CCI or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Pediatrics (RDCS) - ARDMS - PE
