Job description

Metallurgical Laboratory Technician

Description: Plasma Processes a supplier of advanced materials solutions to commercial and government customers is seeking a metallurgical lab technician to, section, mount and polish metallurgical specimen for analysis. Other duties may include using light microscope, measuring microhardness and conducting microstructural characterization using image analysis software. The lab technician will produce metallurgical reports using standard metallurgical analysis techniques as well as perform other laboratory tasks as needed. Two plus years experience in a low to medium volume metallurgical laboratory is preferred.

Responsibilities include:
  • Sectioning, mounting and polishing metallurgical specimen.
  • Clean and maintain standard laboratory equipment (abrasive saws, mounting press, automatic polishers)
  • Operate lab equipment safely
  • Operate analytical scales, light microscope with digital camera, hardness (Vickers/Rockwell) machines
  • Familiarity with image analysis software
  • Maintaining an inventory of standard supplies
  • Maintaining a sample logbook
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions.
  • Prioritize tasks based on production needs and meet daily deadlines.
  • Promote and maintain a culture and attitude of continuous improvement.
  • Education: High School diploma, Associates degree preferred

    Skills: Strong computer skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in manual precision instruments (e.g., calipers and micrometers)
