Job description

What is the role?

Roku is seeking a Senior Illustrator to lead illustration across cross-channel brand campaigns and sponsorable platform experiences, with a focus on key product lines and brand moments that require a strong visual point of view. This is a senior, lead-level role for an illustrator whose portfolio is rooted in commercial and brand illustration, demonstrating design excellence, narrative thinking, and a clear sense of how to build work that feels polished, strategic, and distinctly ownable within a brand system. In this role, you will shape illustrations for cross-channel campaigns, sponsorable platform experiences, and branded collections on the Roku platform. You will translate briefs into visual narratives, create and guide campaign-ready assets, and build visual systems that can flex across placements, partners, and downstream creative needs while maintaining a high creative bar. The right person has a strong sense of composition, storytelling, and brand expression and knows how to make illustrations feel engaging, design-forward, and effective in a commercial context. This person is as comfortable developing concepts independently as they are guiding other illustrators toward a strong creative outcome.

For California Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $112,500 - $130,100 annually.

Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location.

  • Develop visual concepts and narrative systems that bring Roku's brand and IP to life across the platform
  • Own illustration for assigned product lines or initiatives, from early concept through final execution
  • Art direct and guide other illustrators and creative partners to produce high-quality, on-brand work
  • Create illustration that balances storytelling, clarity, and commercial impact
  • Partner with creative, marketing, sales, and business stakeholders to develop work that serves both brand and business goals
  • Present creative work clearly, explain rationale, and represent the Creative team in cross-functional conversations
  • Help define scalable illustration approaches, toolkits, and repeatable systems for ongoing initiatives
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate exploration, iteration, and production while maintaining a strong creative point of view
  • Manage multiple projects in a fast-moving environment while upholding a high standard of craft and consistency
  • Champion the brand voice and style
What experience would help someone be successful in this role at Roku?
  • 7+ years of experience in illustration, brand design, or campaign-focused visual storytelling
  • A portfolio that clearly demonstrates illustration with strong narrative thinking and aesthetic range
  • Experience art directing and leading illustration for campaigns, product marketing, brand systems, or other high-visibility commercial work
  • Strong strategic instincts and experience guiding the work of other illustrators or designers
  • Excellent illustration fundamentals, including composition, color, hierarchy, form, and visual storytelling
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as Figma
  • Familiarity with illustration that lives within product or UI environments
  • Experience building assets, toolkits, and systems that can scale across multiple touchpoints
  • Confidence making creative decisions independently and leading work under broad strategic direction
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present work and collaborate with both creative and non-creative stakeholders
  • Comfort working within established brand guidelines while still bringing fresh ideas and a distinct point of view
  • Experience using AI tools as part of a professional creative workflow
  • Comfort working in a highly dynamic, collaborative environment
