Nature & Purpose of Position
The Office of Student & Family Experience is looking for a creative and motivated Student Assistant to support our team through graphic design and digital marketing. In this role, you'll help design visual content for departmental programs, publications, and promotional materials while staying aligned with SHSU brand standards. Strong skills in digital art, graphic design, and tools like Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator are important for success in this position.
We're looking for a student who is creative, organized, and excited about promoting Sam Houston State University. The ideal candidate is a strong multitasker, a team player, and someone who takes pride in producing high-quality work. You'll receive daily design requests and have the opportunity to build your portfolio while contributing to meaningful campus experiences for students and families.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create digital and print graphics for Student & Family Experience programs, social media, and publications while following SHSU brand guidelines.
- Prepare files for print production, including proofreading and ensuring all specifications are met.
- Assist in content creation and management for the department's Parent & Family Portal.
- Maintain organized design files, templates, and creative assets.
- Help develop visual content for online promotion, including social media posts, digital flyers, and event marketing materials.
- Work closely with the Student & Family student assistants and staff to support ongoing projects.
- May be asked to answer phones, organize materials, and assist with administrative tasks as needed.
- Assist with event setup, signage, promotional materials, and on-site support for the day of events.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Illustrator.
- Extremely detail oriented and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills to support office communication efforts, including email correspondence
- Expert with digital storytelling to run @shsuexperience (Student & Family Experience) social media platforms
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Illustrator.
- Basic photo and/or video editing skills (CapCut, iMovie, etc.)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Familiarity with print production and prepress workflows.
Other Requirements for the Position
- During the Fall/Spring semester: must be able to work 17-20 hours per week (flexibility around class schedule)
