Job description

Position Summary

The Graphic Illustrator creates the visual identity and published artifacts of the technical assistance effort—fact sheets, briefs, infographics, toolkits, presentation templates, and event and social-media graphics. This role turns research, policy, and messaging into clear, accessible, professionally designed products that engage TANF agencies, stakeholders, and families, while adhering to federal branding and accessibility standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and produce publication-quality artifacts, including briefs, fact sheets, infographics, toolkits, report layouts, and templates.
  • Develop data visualizations and infographics in collaboration with the Research and Data Analyst to make findings clear and compelling.
  • Create graphics and visual assets for social media, webinars, and events in coordination with the Communications Specialist.
  • Establish and maintain a consistent visual style and template library aligned with project branding.
  • Prepare print- and web-ready files and ensure all visual products meet Section 508 accessibility standards (alt text, color contrast, readable structure).
  • Manage version control and production timelines for design deliverables.
  • Incorporate client and reviewer feedback efficiently across revision cycles.
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated professional graphic design and illustration experience with a portfolio of published materials.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite—InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Familiarity with the TANF program and the audiences the artifacts will serve.
  • Awareness of the marriage and family-strengthening subject matter to represent content accurately and respectfully.
  • Working knowledge of Section 508 accessible-document design.
  • Strong ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging visuals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing for federal agencies or human-services programs.
  • Data-visualization and infographic specialization.
  • Motion-graphics or short-form video capability.
Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional portfolio). Minimum of four years of professional design experience, preferably producing publications for government, nonprofit, or research organizations.
