About the Position
The Senior SCADA Engineer will serve as a technical subject matter expert supporting the company's Operational Technology (OT), SCADA systems, and data infrastructure across its operating fleet of renewable and conventional generation assets.
Reporting to the Manager of SCADA Engineering, this role will provide technical leadership, troubleshooting expertise, and field support to ensure reliable operation of control and data systems.
The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with Ignition, including both backend and frontend applications, along with strong knowledge of SCADA, RTUs, data historians, and power plant control systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for OT and SCADA equipment, including servers and point configurations.
  • Provide technical mentorship and expertise to other SCADA engineers.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain connections between OT equipment, including SEL RTACs, RIGs, RTUs, and Campbell Scientific data loggers.
  • Support facilities utilizing Ignition, CIMPLICITY, WonderWare, ABB SYS600, and SEL RTAC HMI.
  • Maintain data connections between operating facilities, remote operations centers, corporate data servers, OEM SCADA systems, RTUs, and OPC servers.
  • Partner with internal and third-party IT teams to support plant operations.
  • Provide guidance to ensure compliance with NERC CIP requirements.
  • Develop long-term strategies for standardizing OT equipment across the fleet.
  • Lead SCADA and OT projects with minimal oversight.
  • Support technical analysis, emerging technology evaluation, system improvements, and reliability initiatives.
  • Provide field support and work directly with site teams to troubleshoot and maintain SCADA systems.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with 6-10 years of relevant experience; equivalent experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Ignition, including backend and frontend development.
  • Strong expertise with SCADA systems, RTUs, PI data historians, and related OT equipment.
  • In-depth understanding of power plant operations and control systems.
  • Hands-on experience supporting renewable energy projects strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of NERC CIP requirements and compliance.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Self-starter capable of making decisions and taking ownership with minimal direction.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively across engineering, operations, maintenance, and IT teams.
  • Experience leading engineers and mentoring SCADA professionals through complex systems and projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel up to 40%, including visits to operating facilities.
