About this Role

IFS InfraSource is looking for an experienced Estimator to join our team.  Responsibilities include timely and accurate development of bids and proposals for the management and construction of underground gas & electric utility and renewable energy infrastructure construction in the Midwest and Eastern region of the US. 

What You'll Do
  • This role requires 20-30% travel for customer meetings, site visits, job walks, and regional business development support 
  • Review work requirements and scopes with local operations and project stakeholders 
  • Perform detailed estimating for underground utility and renewable energy infrastructure projects, including constructability considerations and project-specific methodologies 
  • Research and define cost elements including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and project risks 
  • Identify risks, develop contingencies, and proactively propose constructability solutions 
  • Prepare detailed written proposals including clarifications, exceptions, and assumptions 
  • Present draft estimates to upper management for review, risk assessment, and approval 
  • Submit final approved bids to customers within required timelines 
  • Maintain well organized estimate documentation and back up files 
  • Maintain strong communication with existing customers to support ongoing relationships 
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team on key pursuits and large customer engagements 
  • Obtain a thorough understanding of project scope, construction methods, timelines, and customer expectations 
  • Attend pre bid or project scoping meetings, ask relevant project related questions, and accurately record customer responses and key discussion topics 
  • Conduct job site visits to evaluate site conditions, verify constructability, and gather information required for estimating 
  • Provide necessary project documentation to field operations, project management, and administrative staff 
  • Participate in contract pre planning meetings 
  • Assist in preparing and submitting project or contract deliverables as required by customers and InfraSource internal processes 
  • Support field personnel with developing and documenting change orders and negotiate resolutions with customers when disputes arise 
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required including military service. Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field preferred. 
  • Expert in MS Office Applications: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point 
  • Expert organizer (notes, files, documents, etc.) 
  • Proficient in Technical Writing/Correspondence 
  • Proficient in reading prints and performing quantity and material takeoffs 
  • The successful candidate will be a self-starter who works well independently, takes initiative, and has strong relationship building skills
