Job description

Elementary School TESOL Teacher

Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School (“BuffSci”) seeks to hire an Elementary School
TESOL Teacher, in Buffalo, New York, who will be responsible for teaching English as second
language courses and related sub-topics. He or she will instruct students using various teaching
methods, such as lectures and demonstrations, and will use audio-visual aids and other materials
to supplement presentations. He or she will prepare course objectives and outlines following
curriculum guidelines and school requirements. The teacher will assign lessons and correct
homework. He or she will administer tests to evaluate student progress on a regular basis and
issue reports for submission to the school administration. The teacher will keep attendance
records. He or she will also evaluate students’ progress, record results, and issue reports to
inform parents of progress. The teacher will participate in faculty and parent meetings to
evaluate and discuss student performance, problems, and progress with their parents. He or she
will implement individualized programs to offer positive reinforcement regarding social and
academic achievements.

  • The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field as well as a Teaching
  • English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate. A successful candidate must have
  • two (2) years of experience in:
  • Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to elementary school students;
  • Evaluating and selecting textbooks and preparing ESL lesson plans as well as individualized
  • learning plans and afterschool support;
  • Incorporating oral language development and reading comprehension techniques and
  • promoting language-centered initiatives, including public speaking, debates, and field trips;
  • Preparing students for external standardized exams, such as SAT, IELTS, and TOEFL; and
  • Working with students participating in cultural and academic competitions.
