Position Summary
The IDD Training Specialist - Ohio is responsible for coordinating, delivering, and evaluating employee training and development programs that support workforce readiness, employee competency, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and person-centered service delivery throughout OneWell Health Care's Ohio operations and assigned neighboring states.
A primary responsibility of this position is providing required new hire and ongoing employee training based on applicable state, regulatory, program, and organizational requirements. The IDD Training Specialist is also responsible for supporting employee fingerprinting activities, including coordinating and conducting fingerprinting when authorized, maintaining required documentation, and assisting with fingerprinting-related onboarding requirements.
The IDD Training Specialist works collaboratively with Human Resources, Talent, Operations, Compliance, Quality, and organizational leadership to support timely and effective employee onboarding and continuing education.
Position Scope
The IDD Training Specialist supports employee learning, onboarding, competency development, and assigned fingerprinting activities throughout Ohio and neighboring states as assigned.
The position provides instructor-led, virtual, blended, and competency-based training for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), operational employees, and other assigned workforce groups.
The scope of the position includes:
  • New hire orientation and onboarding training.
  • State-required and organizational training programs.
  • Employee fingerprinting and related onboarding support.
  • Coordination of fingerprinting appointments and requirements.
  • Annual and recurring compliance education.
  • Behavioral support, health, safety, and other program-specific training, as applicable.
  • CPR/First Aid training when appropriately certified.
  • Competency assessments and skills validation.
  • Employee remediation and refresher training.
  • Learning Management System (LMS) administration and training documentation.
  • Development and maintenance of training materials.
  • Regulatory and organizational training initiatives.
  • Support of training operations in neighboring states based on organizational needs.

The position operates in office settings, training facilities, community locations, participant service locations, and virtual learning environments. The employee may be required to stand and deliver training for extended periods and operate computers, audiovisual equipment, approved fingerprinting equipment, and other standard office or training technology.
The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and occasionally lift or carry training materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Fingerprinting responsibilities may require repetitive hand and finger movements and operation of electronic fingerprinting equipment.
Frequent travel throughout Ohio and neighboring states is an essential component of the position. Occasional evening, weekend, overnight, or interstate work may also be required based on training and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities
The IDD Training Specialist is responsible for:
  • Coordinating and delivering required new hire and ongoing employee training.
  • Serving as a primary trainer for assigned training programs.
  • Delivering standardized training consistent with approved curricula and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting employee onboarding and workforce readiness.
  • Conducting annual, refresher, remedial, and competency-based training.
  • Conducting employee fingerprinting in accordance with applicable requirements, approved procedures, and assigned authorization.
  • Coordinating fingerprinting appointments and assisting employees through the fingerprinting process.
  • Following established procedures for fingerprint capture, submission, documentation, and tracking.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and security of fingerprinting information and associated personally identifiable information.
  • Communicating fingerprinting completion status and outstanding requirements to authorized personnel.
  • Developing and maintaining training materials, presentations, facilitator guides, assessments, and competency tools.
  • Monitoring employee training completion and certification requirements.
  • Maintaining accurate training records within the LMS and other approved systems.
  • Identifying training, competency, and onboarding gaps and communicating concerns to appropriate leadership.
  • Collaborating with Operations, Human Resources, Talent, Compliance, and Quality regarding employee training and onboarding needs.
  • Supporting audits, licensing reviews, regulatory reviews, and corrective action activities related to employee education and assigned fingerprinting processes.
  • Evaluating training effectiveness and recommending improvements.
  • Maintaining required trainer credentials and professional competency.

Secondary Duties
When primary training and fingerprinting responsibilities do not require the employee's full availability, the IDD Training Specialist may:
  • Support additional new hire and continuing education programs.
  • Assist with employee orientation and onboarding activities.
  • Conduct refresher or remedial education.
  • Support competency validation activities.
  • Assist with LMS administration and training record audits.
  • Develop or update educational materials.
  • Support compliance-related education initiatives.
  • Assist other IDD Training Specialists with scheduled programs.
  • Assist Human Resources and Talent with training and onboarding-related activities.
  • Participate in employee development and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Support organizational projects, meetings, and committees.
  • Perform other training and onboarding-related duties consistent with the position and organizational needs.

Tasks
Regular tasks may include:
  • Prepare classrooms, technology, equipment, and training materials.
  • Facilitate scheduled new hire, required, and organizational training sessions.
  • Conduct behavioral support, safety, crisis prevention/intervention, and other assigned training when applicable to the program or state.
  • Conduct CPR/First Aid training when appropriately certified.
  • Facilitate orientation and other onboarding education.
  • Administer written assessments, competency evaluations, skills demonstrations, and return demonstrations.
  • Schedule and coordinate employee fingerprinting.
  • Operate approved fingerprinting equipment after completing required training and authorization.
  • Review required identification and documentation in accordance with established procedures.
  • Capture fingerprints using approved processes and equipment.
  • Follow established fingerprint submission procedures.
  • Document completion of fingerprinting requirements.
  • Maintain fingerprinting equipment and supplies.
  • Troubleshoot basic fingerprinting equipment or submission issues and escalate concerns when necessary.
  • Protect fingerprinting records, identifying information, and other confidential information.
  • Communicate fingerprinting completion or outstanding requirements to authorized personnel.
  • Document employee attendance and successful completion of training.
  • Enter and maintain training information within the LMS.
  • Monitor upcoming or expiring training and certification requirements.
  • Communicate incomplete or unsuccessful training requirements to appropriate leadership.
  • Provide individual or group remediation when needed.
  • Schedule and coordinate training sessions with operational departments.
  • Maintain training calendars and classroom schedules.
  • Review training materials for accuracy and regulatory alignment.
  • Prepare training compliance reports and related documentation.
  • Participate in meetings related to training, compliance, onboarding, employee performance, and workforce development.

Specific performance targets may be established or modified by leadership based on organizational, operational, and regulatory requirements.
Decision Making
The IDD Training Specialist is authorized to:
  • Deliver approved organizational training programs.
  • Determine whether an employee has successfully completed training based on established assessment and competency criteria.
  • Require additional practice, remediation, or reassessment when competency requirements are not met.
  • Conduct fingerprinting activities within the scope of assigned authorization and established procedures.
  • Repeat fingerprint capture when necessary due to quality or technical issues in accordance with established procedures.
  • Escalate fingerprinting discrepancies, documentation concerns, equipment problems, or unsuccessful submissions to appropriate leadership.
  • Escalate training, competency, safety, onboarding, or compliance concerns.
  • Recommend improvements to educational materials, delivery methods, and training processes.
  • Adjust instructional approaches based on employee learning needs while maintaining required curriculum standards.

The IDD Training Specialist does not independently modify regulatory requirements, waive required training or fingerprinting requirements, interpret background check results, determine employment eligibility based on background check findings, or authorize an employee to perform duties for which required training or competency has not been completed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility unless specifically assigned.
The IDD Training Specialist may provide functional direction, coaching, competency feedback, and educational guidance to employees participating in training but does not independently issue disciplinary action, make compensation decisions, or make employment decisions.
Regulatory Frameworks
The IDD Training Specialist is expected to maintain working knowledge of applicable federal, state, program, payer, and organizational requirements relevant to assigned responsibilities.
