Responsible for driving and operating the Zamboni to resurface and maintain the ice in accordance with NHL standards.  Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with the Zamboni as well as problems with ice surface.

Essential Functions: include the following, other duties may be assigned.

  • Operates the Zamboni Ice Resurfacer safely and efficiently to ensure the best possible ice surface is provided for all NHL and other ice events
  • Prepares all hockey and associated equipment for use during ice events
  • Sets up and removes all hockey and associated equipment for use during ice events
  • Assists Zamboni drivers in ice maintenance as assigned
  • Cleans, inspects and repairs dasher boards, related equipment and ice maintenance equipment
  • Operates ice maintenance equipment as directed; (ex. Edger, ice chippers, shovel)
  • Keeps Zamboni room and tunnel clean and ensures tools put in their proper place
  • Ensures all glass is clean and free of damage requiring it to be replaced
  • Ensures all necessary equipment is out and in proper location prior to start of game
  • Assists in taking down NHL safety netting after games as needed
  • Monitors ice surface for any foreign items and removes as instructed by supervisor or NHL official
  • Inspects ice surface for areas needing attention by skating during the intermission while ice is being resurfaced
  • Assists in installation of ice sheet
  • Assists in installation and removal of in-ice logos
  • Other duties as assigned

Education / Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • NHL or U.S. Ice Rink Association certification program preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with no restrictions                                                             
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the ice making and maintenance profession
  • Must have 3 or more years of experience driving an ice-resurfacing machine, Zamboni preferred
  • Ability to interpret and adjust resurfacing equipment accordingly
  • Must have complete understanding of water and ice dynamics and temperature profiles of a professional skating surface
  • Ability to observe and correct unsafe conditions in the use and operation of all ice resurfacing equipment
  • Working knowledge of all mechanical functions of all resurfacing and associated ice resurfacing equipment
  • Demonstrate ability to troubleshoot and diagnose ice resurfacing conditions and/or problems
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to take complex and accurate ice measurements and document properly
  • Must be customer-service oriented, have a fan-friendly attitude and a professional appearance at all times

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Must adhere to all company safety protocols
  • Must be able to walk, use hands to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds while on skates
  • Must be Able to perform duties on ice
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, distance vision and depth perception
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, during events, the noise level may be loud
  • Must be able to work in exposed wet and/or humid conditions
  • Required to work near moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock
  • Must be flexible to work any shift in a 24/7 facility
