Description and Terms of Employment
The Ice Rink Operations Assistant is a member of the ice rink operations team at the City of Monona's RiverRink outdoor ice skating rink and is responsible for ensuring smooth rink operations, maintaining a safe and clean facility, and providing a positive experience for guests during our weekend hours of operation.
This is a seasonal position from mid-November until March, weekends only, with an occasional on-call opportunities during snow events.
Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.
  1. Operate the ice resurfacing machine.
  2. Level and paint the ice as necessary in order to maintain high-quality ice conditions.
  3. Proactively maintain the dasher board system, facility fixtures and components and make repairs when necessary.
  4. Complete janitorial duties as assigned, including restroom cleaning, trash collection, and stocking of supplies.
  5. Remove snow and ice from walkways and entrances as necessary to ensure that entrances, grounds, and parking lot are kept clean, clear and safe.
  6. Complete safety checks, clean, and wax the ice resurfacer.
  7. Sharpen skates as needed.

Qualifications
  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Must be able to work weekends.
  3. Must be reliable and punctual.
  4. Prior experience with ice rink operations or Zamboni driving is desired, but training is available.

Knowledge and Abilities
  1. Previous experience and training in the operation of ice resurfacing equipment is desired
  2. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  3. Positive attitude and commitment to maintaining a welcoming environment for guests
  4. Organized, self-motivated and proactive
Minimum Physical Abilities:
  1. Ability to drive ice resurfacing equipment
  2. Ability to use a shovel to remove snow and ice from walkways
  3. Ability to operate a snowblower
  4. Ability to work outdoors in cold, wind, snow, and ice conditions
  5. Ability to move up to 40 pounds
