Job description

Job Summary:
Under the immediate supervision of the Facility Manager, and at times the Deputy Director or Assistant Director of Recreation and Facilities, the Part-Time Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations at a two-sheet ice facility.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Maintain ice surfaces by operating and caring for the Zamboni and related equipment.
  • Perform general cleaning and janitorial tasks to uphold facility standards.
  • Supervise cashier, skate guard, and party attendant staff.
  • Oversee facility operations, including nightly closing procedures.
  • Actively participate in the Emergency Action Plan and lead staff response in emergency situations.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned to support overall operations.

This position is part-time from November to March and typically requires working up to 15-35 hours a week, with nights and weekends required.
Qualifications:
  • At least 21 years old or older.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of experience driving a Zamboni, managing staff, and managing a facility
  • Must possess a valid Driver's Licenses.
  • Must possess CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or willing to obtain within one month of hire.
  • Must pass the Glencoe Park District Vehicle Training.
  • All employees must pass a criminal background check; the Glencoe Park District will cover.

Required Knowledge:
  • Strong knowledge of ice making and ice maintenance.
  • Understanding of the philosophy of public recreation, with the ability to effectively communicate it to others.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge relevant to the position.

Required Skills:
  • Must be dependable and flexible, demonstrating strong safety awareness and sound judgment.
  • Ability to understand and follow rules, procedures, and instructions.
  • Ability to read, write, and organize materials effectively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate the Zamboni and related preparations to keep the ice clean, safe, and on.
  • Assists with the maintenance of the facility by cleaning the lobby, washrooms, office, locker, and meeting rooms, emptying trash receptacles, placing hockey nets on the ice, and other duties as assigned.
  • Handle all contacts with the public (patrons) pleasantly, courteously, and professionally.
  • Work in a changing environment ranging from lobby temperatures to on-ice conditions with colder temperatures and changing humidity.
  • Required to work weekends and evenings.
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Must wear the uniform while on duty.
  • Resurfacing and maintenance of ice according to schedule.
  • Opening the building in the morning and closing the building at night.
  • Preparing rink for special events.
  • Perform daily maintenance of ice-making equipment.
  • Maintenance of hockey dasher, goals, and scoreboard.
  • Perform and record system readings of the compressor unit, record information, and inform the Facility Manager of any issues.
  • Must demonstrate safety awareness and judgment and follow safety protocol .
  • Ensures the safety of patrons on and around the ice rink by maintaining the ice in good condition.
  • Conducting both ice and snow removal in front of the building and around the walkways of the rinks.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the rink and surrounding areas and ensure that all hazards are removed.
  • Completes safety reports and records as required. Report all accidents and incidents to the Facility Manager immediately.
  • Follow safety programs associated with the operation of ice-making and ice-maintenance equipment.
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District's safety manual.
  • Supervise cashier/skate guard/party attendant staff and make sure all job duties are completed by the end of each shift.
  • Ensure daily checklists are filled out and that job duties are completed by walking the facility.
  • Complete facility walkthrough every hour, inspecting the lobby, locker rooms, Recreation Room, Program Room, Bathrooms, Main/Studio Rinks, front and back entrances, and office area.
  • Complete a daily checklist and immediately report accidents or concerns.
  • Assist in setting up and organizing daily activities.

Hours:
Due to the nature of Park District programming, evening, weekend, and some holiday hours are to be expected
Pay Scale:
This is a seasonal part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The intended starting pay for this position is $22 per hour, with a full pay scale ranging from $22 per hour to $30 per hour.
Final compensation will be determined in good faith based on an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the recommendation of the Facility Manager - Glencoe Beach and Ice Rink, or the Assistant Director of Recreation and Facilities.
