Job description

Job Summary This position performs ice skating instruction under the guidelines of the Ice Skating Institute (ISI), and supervises Assistant Ice Rink Instructors at the Menard Sports Center. Essential Duties The following duties are essential for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.

To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned. Coordinates and manages the Learn to Skate program or other approved ice-skating programs, including facilitating classes, and handling enrollments.

Instructs skating lessons and other ice arena programs following the standards set by the Ice Skating Institute or other guidelines adopted by the City of Wasilla. Organizes and facilitates special event skate programs. Provides direction and guidance to Assistant Ice Rink Instructors and manages instructor scheduling based on program needs.

Recommends additional staffing, equipment, or resources necessary for the safe and effective operation of ice skating programs and the ice arena. Ensures the proper use and storage of Menard Sports Center equipment used during programs. Educates and informs students and ice arena patrons while observing and enforcing safety protocols and facility rules.

Assists with other skating programs, events, and parties as needed to support the overall success of the facility. Provides assistance to parents, family members, and patrons in locating children, relatives, or other users within the ice arena facility. Completes required lesson documentation, records, and reports and submits them to the Recreational Services Director in a timely manner.

Reports concerns, issues, or programming needs to the Sports Center Manager. Conducts classroom sessions on programming and safety as necessary. Prepares skate program materials, including flyers and informational handouts, to promote programs effectively.

Performs additional job-related duties and special projects as assigned. Knowlege, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: Ice skating programs and the potential hazards and safety measures associated with such programs. Administrative policies and procedures of the City.

The City's and Department's operating requirements, policies, procedures, and practices; and local regulations. Management and supervisory practices & principles, including the ability to make final employment recommendations and preparing performance evaluations. Computer software consistent with this position.

Skill in: Teaching and safely instructing ice skating programs to students of all ages. Organizational and time management to prioritize duties while adapting to constant changes in priority. Ability to: Teach ice skating skills and other aspects of ice skating programs.

Communicate orally and in writing and effectively work with patrons of all ages, parents, public, volunteers, and staff. Work effectively with the general public. Adapt and take control of situations, dictating subordinate activities in a responsible manner.

Instruct and train in methods and procedures. Organize, assign, and modify the work assignment of others, and (re)-establish priorities to meet deadlines. Apply sound judgment and discretion in performing duties, resolving problems, and interpreting policies and regulations.

Read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. Prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports. Maintain professionalism at all times.

Maintain effective working relationships with individuals within and outside the organization. Work the allocated hours of the position and responds after hours if needed. Experience, Education Certificates, and Licenses Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Minimum Experience: Four (4) years of related experience. Current ISI Instructor rating. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
