Job description

Ice Miller is seeking an associate to join our Energy and Utilities Group in Indianapolis. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced attorneys on a broad range of energy and utility matters, including regulatory, transactional, and administrative proceedings, while developing practical skills in a collaborative, client-focused environment.

In this position, you will:

  • Collaborate with a small, close-knit team of talented attorneys and professional staff
  • Work within a sophisticated practice advising investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, and local governments
  • Support matters involving gas, electric, steam, water, and wastewater utilities across various regulatory proceedings, including appearances before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC), Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), and other public utility commissions
  • Engage in a mix of regulatory, transactional, and administrative matters with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities designed to support your growth
  • Contribute to a collegial environment with clear opportunities for advancement

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have two (2) to four (4) years of legal experience, including at least one (1) year or more of experience in the public or private sector with exposure to any of the following areas of practice: energy law; utility regulatory law; other government-regulated industries; administrative and/or civil litigation; and/or contract law
  • Have experience practicing before the IURC, PUCO, and/or the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), which is preferred but not required
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Be highly motivated, self-directed, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic setting
  • Have a J.D. from accredited law school with a strong academic credential
  • Be licensed and in good standing to practice law in Indiana or be eligible to become licensed in Indiana
  • Must have permanent authorization to work in the United States
