Their role includes examining structures during various stages of construction, renovation, or repair to ensure that all work meets local, state, and national building codes. They often specialize in areas such as electrical, plumbing, or structural inspections. Becoming certified involves passing one or more rigorous exams administered by the ICC, as well as fulfilling any state or local licensing requirements. An ICC Certified Building Inspector regularly works alongside architects, engineers, contractors, and city officials to ensure that all aspects of a construction project comply with relevant codes and regulations. Inspectors often attend site meetings, provide feedback on compliance issues, and may suggest corrective actions if standards are not met. Effective communication and teamwork are vital, as inspectors must clearly document findings and work constructively with the project team to resolve any code-related concerns, helping ensure the safety and legality of the completed structure.
