The Carpenter performs skilled carpentry work in the construction, renovation, repair, and maintenance of hospital buildings and related facilities. This role supports the Facilities Department by ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with healthcare regulations, building codes, and infection control standards. The Carpenter works both independently and collaboratively to maintain a safe, functional, and professional healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
  • Perform a variety of skilled carpentry tasks including framing, drywall installation and repair, cabinetry, finish carpentry, door and hardware installation, ceiling systems, and general facility repairs.
  • Construct, install, repair, and maintain walls, partitions, doors, windows, flooring, casework, and other structural components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and work orders to determine materials and project requirements.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and fasten materials using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking equipment.
  • Perform minor demolition and remodeling activities in accordance with safety and infection control standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) protocols and maintain proper containment measures in active healthcare environments.
  • Follow all applicable building codes, life safety codes, and hospital policies during construction and repair activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized job site, ensuring proper safety signage and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards and adherence to project specifications.
  • Coordinate with other Facilities staff and contractors to complete assigned projects efficiently and minimize disruption to patient care areas.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with material procurement, inventory management, and proper storage of supplies and equipment.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Exercise sound judgment in identifying repair needs and recommending solutions.
  • Maintain professional conduct, appropriate language, and appearance consistent with a healthcare setting.
  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Completion of a formal carpentry apprenticeship program or technical training in carpentry or building construction.
Licenses/ certifications/ registrations
Required: Valid State issued Driver's License.
Preferred: OSHA certification.
Experience
Required: Minium five (5) years journeyman level experience performing commercial or institutional carpentry work. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
Preferred: Experience working in healthcare, hospital, or similarly regulated environments.
