Job description

Kapur is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Designer to join our team to provide electric and gas design services for residential, commercial, and industrial customers within the We Energies territory. In this role, you will be responsible for creating detailed service designs and small distribution plans using MicroStation software. As a Designer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of gas and electric services to customers while collaborating with contractors and internal We Energies team members. This is a union designer position โ€“ as part of the position you will enroll in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 2150.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize the software tool, MicroStation, to create accurate and detailed designs for gas and electric systems for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
  • Collaborate with builders to understand project requirements and effectively communicate design specifications and progress updates.
  • Effectively document and communicate project updates on a weekly basis to internal team members.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Create site plans, determine meter locations, and evaluate routes that align with regulatory standards, industry best practices, and We Energies guidelines.
  • Meet with We Energy customers onsite to determine equipment and utility locations.
  • Provide a list of quantities and develop cost estimate for the gas and/or electric installation.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and high-quality deliverables are produced.
  • Evaluate electric and gas loads to determine proper service and meter size.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis to identify potential design issues or improvements and propose appropriate solutions.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of design processes, tools, and workflows to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to gas and electric design services.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a high school diploma is required.
  • Secondary education in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical is preferred.
  • Driver license and reliable vehicle required.
  • Willing to complete site visits and travel to office in inclement weather.
  • Experience in gas and/or electric design services, residential, commercial, or industrial properties is a plus.
  • Proficient using design software, specifically MicroStation, with a strong understanding of design principles and best practices is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with builders, stakeholders, and team members.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle a high workload, managing up to 20 projects concurrently.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on producing accurate and error-free designs.
