Description

This position will be responsible for managing and directing the complete operations of the Campus Operations department, both union and non-union, as well as the Security and Public Safety department, Facilities, Engineering, Housekeeping, and Capital Projects to ensure effective administration of fiscal, people, and operational procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Other duties may be assigned or changed at the discretion of management.

  • Responsible for directing the operation of the Campus Operations Department and the financial settlement of all events or productions held within the Center venues; supervises IATSE full and part-time staff as well as the Director, Theater Operations.
  • Oversee Capital Planning, Construction, and Project Delivery.
  • Responsible for directing the operation of the Security Department and the safety and security of all patrons and staff on the Center campus; supervises the Director of Security and Public Safety.
  • Responsible for directing the operation of the Engineering Department and the maintenance of all facilities within the Center’s campus; supervises the Chief Engineers for Segerstrom Hall and the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.
  • Responsible for directing the operation of the Theater Operations Department including all special events or special functions held at the Center; supervises the Building Operations Managers and the Theater Operations Administrative Assistant.
Additional duties include:
  • Prepares and submits annual budgets for each department and tracks progress towards maintaining strong financial controls within these budgets throughout the fiscal year.
  • Develops and implements annual recommendations for capital repair and replacement for review and approval by the Facilities Committee; serves as primary staff for this board committee.
  • Serves as primary contact for the Center’s concessions licensee, Patina Restaurant Group, for the operation of intermission food concessions and Leatherby’s Café Rouge restaurant.
  • Participates in any IATSE labor negotiation or dispute including contract renewals, grievances or disciplinary actions in consultation with the Vice President, Human Resources and Chief Financial Officer.
  • Acquires and maintains all required permits and licenses for the operation of the facility including City of Costa Mesa and County of Orange permits.
  • Negotiates all service contracts for all departments supervised above.
  • Ensure compliance, governance, and risk management standards.
Requirements
  • College degree and/or a combination of education and direct experience equivalent to 10+ years working in a performing arts facility or professional entertainment venue;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in theatre/facility management, including nonprofit performing arts is preferable;
  • Experience managing large budgets and capital programs;
  • Knowledge of building systems and safety compliance;
  • Extensive knowledge of labor contracts, wage scales, practices and techniques;
  • Ability to prioritize and follow-through on several projects/tasks simultaneously;
  • Effective organization, time management, and attention to detail;
  • Technical experience in concert production and/or company management, a plus;
  • Dependable and reliable, able to meet the requirements of the work schedule.
Summary PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Segerstrom Center for the Arts is a fast-paced, event-driven environment, requiring occasional evenings and weekends. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and/or stand for periods up to two or more hours. The employee may be assigned to work inside a dark or semi-dark environment and walk up and down stairs and slanted walkways. As a result, the employee must maintain sufficient stamina and possess keen eyesight (close and distance) either naturally or with corrected vision and have the ability to adjust eye focus in differing lighting situations. The employee must also have clear speaking ability and must have sufficient hearing to be able to communicate effectively. The employee must be able to operate a vehicle and must maintain a valid driver’s license. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment may fluctuate from quiet to loud depending on scheduled events. In addition, the employee may occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions.
