  • DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
    • A sterile processing technician works to prepare, sterilize, install, assemble, or clean all laboratory or healthcare equipment required for surgeries, examinations, and medical procedures. The sterile processing technician ensures equipment, instruments, and supplies can be reused safely to prevent infections.
  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
    • Experience:
      • None Required.
    • Education and Training:
      • High School Graduate.
    • License, Certification & Registration:
      • CRCSCB – Registered CRCST or CSPDT or CBSPD within two years of hire.
    • Other Requirements:

      • CS Tech ICS Tech IICS Tech III  

        CS Tech IV

        High School Graduate 

        Completion of Registered Central Service Technician & Certified Endoscope Reprocessor Certifications.

         

        Maintains CRCST & CER Certifications.

         

        Maintains CRCST, CER, and CIS Certifications.

        Related Technical
        Education Preferred. 

        Proficient in CS Tech competencies.

         

        Completion of Certified Instrument Specialist Certification.

         

        Completion of Certified Healthcare Leader Certification.

        Inventory, organize, and maintain backup instruments.

         

        Guide CS staff in triage.

         

        Sterilization

         

        General Surgical Core

         

        Collaborate with the OR service line specialist and vendors regarding service specific loaners.

         

        Oversee processing areas for staff compliance and safety.

         

        Emergency Trays

         

        Sterile Storage and Supplies.

         

        Precept new staff in specialty.

         

        Oversee new staff orientation and provide feedback.

         

        Floor Trays

         

        Case Carts

         

        GHX training and access.

         

        Troubleshoot equipment.

         

        Procedure Carts

         

        Other CS processing departments.

         

        Inventory, order, and stock supplies as operational specialist.

         

        Monitor documentation.

         

        SPM

         

        Assist with training new staff.

         

        Anticipate and adjust back orders.

         

        Assist with daily assignments, staff, and call schedule.

           

        Follow FIFO.

         

        Collaborate with service leaders and vendors regarding loaner sets and implants and follow through ensuring sets arrive for case.

            

        Instrument ordering and repair.

            

        Data collection.
