How much do hypermesh engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 8, 2026, the average yearly pay for hypermesh engineer in California is $114,347.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $81,900.00 and $149,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Hypermesh engineer?

To excel as a Hypermesh Engineer, you need strong expertise in finite element analysis (FEA), mechanical engineering fundamentals, and a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency in Hypermesh software, along with experience using CAE tools like ANSYS or Abaqus, and knowledge of scripting languages is essential. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and ensuring high-quality simulations. These skills are crucial for delivering accurate, efficient engineering solutions that support product development and structural integrity.

What is a Hypermesh engineer?

Hypermesh Engineers are professionals who specialize in using Hypermesh, a leading finite element pre-processing software, to create finite element models for engineering simulations. They are responsible for preparing geometry, meshing components, and ensuring that the models are suitable for structural, thermal, or other types of analyses. Hypermesh Engineers work closely with design and analysis teams in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing to optimize product designs and improve performance. Their expertise helps ensure accurate simulations, which are critical for product development and validation.

What are some common challenges Hypermesh engineers face when collaborating with design and simulation teams?

Hypermesh Engineers often encounter challenges in aligning meshing requirements with the needs of design and simulation teams. Differences in priorities, such as mesh density for accuracy versus computational efficiency, can require negotiation and clear communication. Additionally, working with evolving CAD data or late-stage design changes can demand flexibility and rapid problem-solving. Effective collaboration usually involves participating in regular cross-functional meetings and using shared digital platforms to ensure all teams are aligned on project goals and timelines.

As Principal Development Test Engineer, you will own the success of testing mechanical structures, materials, and electromechanical subsystems that will be key to our satellite operation. You will anticipate company needs and stand-up infrastructure to support the core and future business. In your first 6 months, you will define large-scale development test campaigns, design and build test setups, and be hands-on with flight hardware. In your first year, you will validate designs through prototype testing and lead large multidisciplinary test campaigns. You will drive company-wide best practices and make a large positive impact on the success of the K2 Space by leading large test campaigns and mentoring the growing team.ย

Responsibilitiesย

  • Design and fabricate test hardware, test stands, and test systems, as well as execute development tests for structures, components, and materials in order to support internal and external customer needsย
  • Lead satellite subsystem test campaigns from kickoff through test report and beyondย
  • Drive hands on hardware development testing, analysis processing/data reduction, and continuous improvement of testing methods and best practices across the companyย
  • Steer the development of data acquisition, control, and instrumentation systems at the integrated level and develop internal tools and company-wide best practicesย
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to establish product requirements, testing methods and project test schedules, and mentor early-career engineersย ย

Qualificationsย

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or other relevant engineering disciplineย
  • 8+ years of industry experience with mechanical, structural, and/or electromechanical test, design, and analysisย
  • Experience designing, building, and testing mechanical assemblies and test fixtures for aerospace or terrestrial applications (satellite mechanical systems, payloads, launch vehicles, propulsion systems, and/or aircraft structures and mechanisms)ย
  • Experience with CAD or FEA software packagesย
  • Hands-on fabrication experienceย

Nice to Haveย

  • Experience with data acquisition, controls, and dedicated test equipment (examples include motor dynos, material testers, vibration tables, environmental data loggers, motorsports DAQ)ย
  • Experience with the practical application of GD&Tย
  • Experience with NX (Unigraphics) and Teamcenter PLMย
  • Experience with performing structural analysis (Simcenter 3D, Femap, or Hypermesh)ย
  • Basic practical programming abilities (Python, MATLAB, Simulink, C++, R, LabVIEW)ย
  • Demonstrated ability to own mechanical hardware or systems within an integrated engineering teamย ย
  • Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems in space environments and operationsย
  • Independent and self-motivated mindset, with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skillsย

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary range for this role is $175,000 - $200,000 + equity in the companyย
