How much do hyperbaric welders jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 4, 2026, the average hourly pay for hyperbaric welders in the United States is $23.96, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.19 and $26.44 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How to get into hyperbaric welding?

To become a hyperbaric welder, you typically need to have a welding certification such as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Welder (CW), along with specialized training in underwater or hyperbaric welding. Experience in underwater welding and safety procedures is essential, and most employers require completion of a hyperbaric welding program and certification from a recognized agency. Physical fitness and the ability to work in confined, high-pressure environments are also important.

Can you make $300,000 as a welder?

Hyperbaric welders can potentially earn $300,000 or more annually due to the specialized nature of underwater and hyperbaric welding, which requires advanced skills, certifications, and often involves working in challenging environments. Such high earnings are typically associated with extensive experience, high-risk projects, and working in remote or offshore locations, sometimes with overtime pay. However, these salaries are not common for all welders and depend on factors like location, employer, and individual expertise.

What is the difference between Hyperbaric Welders vs Commercial Divers?

AspectHyperbaric WeldersCommercial Divers
CertificationsHyperbaric welding certification, diver certificationCommercial diving certification, safety training
Work EnvironmentUnderwater hyperbaric chambers, controlled hyperbaric environmentsOpen water, underwater construction, inspection sites
Industry UsageOil & gas, underwater repair, hyperbaric facilitiesMarine construction, salvage, underwater welding

Hyperbaric welders specialize in underwater welding within hyperbaric chambers or controlled environments, often requiring specific certifications. Commercial divers work in open water environments performing various underwater tasks. While both roles involve underwater work and safety certifications, hyperbaric welders focus on hyperbaric conditions, whereas commercial divers operate in open water settings.

What is the highest paid type of welder?

Hyperbaric welders, who work in pressurized underwater environments, tend to be among the highest paid welders due to the specialized skills, certifications, and safety requirements involved. Their advanced training and the hazardous conditions they work in typically result in higher compensation compared to other welding specialties.

How much do hyperbaric welders make?

Hyperbaric welders typically earn between $60,000 and $100,000 annually, with experienced professionals and those working in offshore or specialized environments earning higher wages. Salaries depend on factors such as certification, location, and the complexity of the projects they undertake.
