Main Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for supervising and leading or being the chief of crews\r\nof sub-professional, technical work in the field of hydrographic engineering and\r\nconstruction of marine terminals.\r\nThis position leads crews that do survey work for buoy placement, leases for new\r\nor renewal, construction and concrete work and abandoned boat and debris\r\nremoval and disposal. This position makes request for equipment upgrades,\r\nreplacement or repairs of all facility and vessels components, this work requires\r\ndetailed budget reports that need to be approved for all major purchases.\r\nThis position is a Specialist in; charting and utilizing sophisticated technical\r\ninstruments for the determination GPS positions, preparing and reviewing\r\npreliminary and final plans, installing GPS, navigational, electronic, and other\r\nequipment in the terminals and on the vessels, installing winches, davits, and solar\r\nbattery chargers, maintaining and repairing motors, trailers, air conditioners,\r\nheaters, and other components, stenciling buoys, signs, and day-markers, and\r\nconstructing and compiling charts delineating hydrographic and other data\r\npertaining to the natural resources of State waters.\r\nThis position is a Facility Manager and works to keep the buildings and grounds of\r\nHydrographic Operations functional and safe. Hydrographic Operations maintains three buildings and several warehouses with at least a quarter of an acre land for each\r\nfacility. This position is responsible for maintaining the faculties, grounds, capital\r\nequipment inventory, and vessels as needed.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Fishing and Boating Services located at 800 Norris Harbor\r\nDrive, Crisfield MD 21817 is currently accepting applications for a Hydrographic Engineer Associate IV. This\r\nposition is a sub-professional technical work at the experienced level in the field of surveying. It works with a\r\nsurvey team using surveying equipment and is responsible for the accurate placement of regulatory and\r\nnavigation buoys on a highly technical, multifaceted and state of the art buoy tending/ice breaking operation for\r\nBoating Services. This position supervises the structural/cosmetic repairs/upgrades and is responsible for\r\ncommanding vessels involved in buoy operations. The program is vital to a variety of state regulatory, research\r\nand restoration programs within Maryland's portion of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate including at least four courses in mathematics and/or science.\r\nExperience: Two years of experience performing advanced level HydrographicEngineering Associate work or three years of experience performingfull performance level/advance level Hydrographic Engineering Associate work in the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.\r\nOR \r\nExperience:Nine years of experience involving any combination of hydrography,engineering, surveying, or construction inspection work includingthree years of experience in hydrographic engineering associated activities.\r\nNotes:\r\n1.Candidates may substitute credit hours in the field of engineering, geology, physics, oceanography, or mathematics (excluding basic required courses) from an accredited college or university at the rate of 15 credit hours for one year, for up to two years of the required experience.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Civil Engineeringclassifications or CivilEngineeringor Quarrying Specialist specialty codes in thehydrographic engineeringfield of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n Experience in steel hull vessel maintenance. Capable of operating and maintaining a state vessel, vehicle and trailer to assure a safe and ready response in accordance with Departmental policies.\r\n Experience operating and maintaining boats and trailers.\r\n Possession of a Class C drivers license is required. (Independent field crews must drive vehicles towing boats.)\r\n Experience using vessels equipped with hydraulic cranes and hand operated wenches.\r\n Knowledge of setting and retrieving regulatory buoys to mark zones.\r\n Experience in the safe operation of hand and power tools.\r\n Experience utilizing GPS devices.\r\n\r\n
