Job Function:
The Manager, Partnerships and Stakeholder Relations play a pivotal role in developing and executing Hydro One's external partnerships strategy, with primary responsibility for managing the company's portfolio of industry association memberships, advocacy sponsorships, conferences, and stakeholder events. This role is responsible for identifying and maximizing opportunities to strengthen Hydro One's presence, influence, and thought leadership across the energy and electricity sector, ensuring investments in partnerships and sponsorships deliver measurable value and align with corporate priorities

General Accountabilities:

  • Determine, promote and implement key government and external relations strategies, policies and programs in support of Hydro One's corporate goals and strategy.
  • Make effective recommendations, including making relevant presentations, to senior management and the Hydro One Board of Directors on strategies and programs which are critical to Hydro One's success.
  • Provide detailed strategic government and external relations advice and operational support.
  • Establish and maintain contacts at the highest level of the government and external agencies, and with key senior people in Hydro One.
  • Being aware of and utilizing key information, including confidential and forward-looking information on government policy, external agency directions and Hydro One perspectives, on a continuous basis to determine government and external relations policies, strategies and programs.
  • Lead the establishment of Hydro One positions at the OEB regarding interactions with the government and external agencies, including addressing confidentiality considerations.
  • Lead the implementation of key initiatives to:
    • Influence proposed regulation and legislation
    • Improve the working relationship between Hydro One lines of business and government ministries, agencies & external stakeholders
    • increase external stakeholder satisfaction and
    • enhance Hydro One's image/reputation across all external key influencers and stakeholders.
  • Manage government and external relations activities including:
    • interactions with various provincial government ministries and federal government departments
    • specific support for government initiatives, new bills and regulations
    • interfaces with key agencies such as the OEB (in conjunction with regulatory affairs), and the IESO
    • interactions with external stakeholders, particularly representative groups such as generator associations, and consumer associations in conjunction with other Hydro One groups including Corporate Communications
  • Provide support to various lines of business by providing government and external relations advice and support to ensure programs meet their goals, enable process redesign and the improvement and implementation of business change programs, and that LOB programs are clearly understood by Hydro One#s external stakeholders and shareholders.
  • Provide reports and data for corporate purposes, as required.
  • Perform analysis and measure government and external relations performance data to ensure that associated activities are effective and targeted.
  • Manage project budgets and maximize the impact of each government and external relations dollar, including negotiating best rates from external service deliverers where applicable.
  • Ensure availability of appropriate resources for the completion of government and external relations programs.
  • Ensure scope and policy changes, new work methods and program/project objectives are effectively introduced to staff.
  • Provide leadership and be accountable for the successful implementation and delivery of assigned work programs and special projects.

Selection Criteria:

  • University Degree in a relevant field to either energy, environment or public policy.
  • 10 years’ experience in Government Relation (or equivalent) with 5 plus years in Management
