Job description

The function of the Registered Nurse- Residential MHMR is to ensure the provision of a comprehensive program of preventative, intervention and emergency medical care for the individuals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • As an RN on our team, you will oversee and coordinate for the overall health and safety for Adults with a variety of Developmental Disabilities in Residential or Day Program Settings
  • Monitor medication and medical records for people receiving services
  • Utilize Electronic Records to complete appropriate documentation and records review
  • Ensures medical follow up (i.e appt.’s, labs obtain prescribed medication, etc.) occurs in a timely manner
  • Provide Triage instructions for immediate first aid or make recommendations to send individuals to the Urgent Care or Emergency Departments for further treatment
  • Supervise direct support professional (DSP) staff administration of medication to people receiving services
  • Conduct training for staff in medical administration, personal hygiene, basic first aid, dental hygiene, infection control, adaptive equipment, vital signs, signs and symptoms of illness and other in-services as may be necessary to meet needs of persons served
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews as required by each division
  • Participates in routine individual case reviews
  • Consult with MD's to ensure optimal medical treatments are provided to people being supported
  • Participate in Rotating Schedule for Telephone On Call Triage coverage as per regulation
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Must assume as the need arises.

Qualifications:

-The ideal candidate will be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with at least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse.

-Experience with Developmentally Disabled, Community Care, ER or Psychiatric populations preferred but not required

-Valid New York State Registered Nurse license and current registration in good standing

-CPR certification
