HVAC Technicians
The University of Utah Facilities Management team is seeking an HVAC Technician to join our Utilities team, supporting both central cooling plants and smaller remote systems across campus. In this role, you will help maintain reliable, year-round cooling for the University, working on equipment ranging from small standalone units to large systems up to 2,000 tons. 
This position offers strong opportunities for training, skill development, and career growth. Responsibilities: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC systems (basic to advanced); Support operation and troubleshooting of systems using the Building Automation System (BAS); Assist in maintaining central plant and remote cooling equipment; Diagnose issues and implement effective solutions in a team environment; Provide excellent customer service while supporting campus operations. Minimum Qualifications:Basic knowledge of HVAC systems and maintenance practices; Demonstrated problem-solving and mechanical aptitude; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Must have a current driver's license.

Responsibilities

HVAC Technician, II
Install and repair facility heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Perform efficiency tests on HVAC equipment to ensure optimal function. Make recommendations for organization in order to improve efficiency or operation. Assist in the design of new facility's plumbing systems. Ensure all HVAC systems are in compliance with local or national regulatory requirements. May require certification in use of refrigerants. Completes routine tasks under moderate supervision.

HVAC Technician, III
Install and repair facility heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Perform efficiency tests on HVAC equipment to ensure optimal function. Make recommendations for organization in order to improve efficiency or operation. Assist in the design of new facility's plumbing systems. Ensure all HVAC systems are in compliance with local or national regulatory requirements. May require certification in use of refrigerants. Completes assignments with little supervision. May assist less-experienced team members.

HVAC Technician, IV
Install and repair facility heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Perform efficiency tests on HVAC equipment to ensure optimal function. Make recommendations for organization in order to improve efficiency or operation. Assist in the design of new facility's plumbing systems. Ensure all HVAC systems are in compliance with local or national regulatory requirements. May require certification in use of refrigerants. Highest-level support. Performs advanced tasks under minimal supervision. May mentor less-experienced team members.

Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

HVAC Technician, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience.

HVAC Technician, III: Requires 3+ years of related experience.

HVAC Technician, IV: Requires 5+ years of related experience.

Preferences

1) Having an EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification is a plus
2) Experience on water-cooled chillers is a plus
3) Experience with cooling towers is a plus
4) Experience with computer-based controls and troubleshooting is a plus
5) Experience with chemistry control of both closed and open hydronic systems is a plus
