Job description

Overview

The HVAC Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining residential and commercial heating and cooling systems. This role ensures all service calls and preventative maintenance visits are completed efficiently, safely, and professionally while delivering exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Service & Diagnostics

  • Respond to dispatched service calls with professionalism and punctuality.
  • Perform system diagnostics including visual inspections, electrical testing, refrigerant pressure checks, and operational testing.
  • Identify faulty components and complete necessary repairs.
  • Verify system performance after repairs to ensure proper heating, cooling, and airflow.
  • Document findings, repairs performed, and system condition in service reports.

Preventative Maintenance

  • Inspect indoor and outdoor HVAC units for wear, damage, or rodent intrusion.
  • Remove and clean filters, blower wheels, and blower housings.
  • Clean condenser coils and clear debris from outdoor units.
  • Check electrical connections, refrigerant lines, voltage, and amp draw.
  • Flush and clean drain lines.
  • Test system operation and confirm proper temperature output.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Clearly explain system issues, repairs performed, and maintenance recommendations to customers.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction before leaving the job site.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures including proper PPE usage.
  • Handle refrigerants in compliance with EPA guidelines.
  • Adhere to company standards and manufacturer specifications.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience servicing residential and commercial HVAC systems.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical components and refrigerant systems.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain professional customer interactions.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required; ability to travel daily to job sites.

Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of accredited HVAC technical school or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Valid EPA 608 Universal Certification strongly preferred.
  • Completion of accredited HVAC technical school or apprenticeship preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Safety Certification a plus.
