Job Overview:

The HVAC Mechanic shall be responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems within supported facilities. This role ensures optimal environmental conditions for personnel, equipment, and critical infrastructure by maintaining system reliability, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance. Shall be responsible for performing routine maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Shall also be responsible for the installation of new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines.


Support Hours: Applicant shall be available during core work hours as established the Government customer.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Must comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area.
  • Perform other facility maintenance and repair duties as needed.
  • Assist in other areas after primary job duties are completed to facilitate cross-training.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC/R systems including: Air handling units (AHUs), VAV boxes, FCUs; Split systems, package units; and Commercial refrigeration equipment
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance in accordance with scheduled services.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues using test instruments and BMS/BAS systems.
  • Monitor and adjust HVAC systems to maintain temperature, humidity, and air quality standards.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance calls and system failures with minimal downtime.
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, EPA regulations, and local mechanical codes.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and other maintenance personnel as required.
  • Support energy management initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
  • Maintain proper handling, recovery, and disposal of refrigerants.
  • Assist with commissioning and retrofitting of HVAC/R systems.
  • Operates scissor and boom lifts.
  • Must comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area.
  • Perform other facility maintenance and repair duties as needed.
  • Assist in other areas after primary job duties are completed to facilitate cross-training.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements/Education:

  • Commercial/industrial license issued by the State of Virginia.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal preferred).
  • Must have at least five (5) years of hands-on HVAC/R maintenance experience in commercial or industrial facilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) Certificate.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of HVAC/R systems, electrical controls, and mechanical components.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and test equipment.
  • Must have knowledge of acceptable maintenance procedures and an understanding of occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Must be a steady, reliable worker.
  • Must be able to read simple instructions and follow simple diagrams.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Must be able to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to complete each task assignment.
  • The ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. frequently.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Must be willing/able to work outside in hot, cold conditions.
  • Ability to perform each bullet point task in the position summary.
  • Communicate effectively in a positive, professional manner with coworkers, clients, and visitors.

Security Requirement:

  • It is mandatory that all Contractor personnel working onsite at federal facilities meet federal government security clearance standards.
