TAG Refrigeration is seeking HVAC Start-Up Technicians for commercial and industrial HVAC work in and around the Major Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Role Summary

The HVAC Start-Up Technician is responsible for the start-up of commercial and industrial HVAC systems, as well as supporting the technical needs of construction operations. This role focuses on bringing newly installed systems online safely and efficiently, ensuring proper operation of equipment & applicable accessories. The technician functions as a technical resource supporting construction, service, and installation initiatives.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform pre startup inspections of HVAC systems and complete pressure testing across a wide variety of verticals.
  • Complete full start-up per manufacturer procedures and TAB punch lists for newly installed HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge with major manufacturers such as Trane, Carrier, Lennox, Aaon, York, Samsung, Mitsubishi, LG, etc.
  • Perform basic control wiring or RTUs, Split systems, VRF, and hydronic systems. Including applicable accessories such as duct smoke detectors, economizers and powered exhaust.
  • Perform thorough existing HVAC system audits for the construction team prior to construction mobilization.
  • Lead small projects such as roof sweeps & retrofits.
  • Support the HVAC service & construction departments.

Skills and Qualifications

• Journeyman-level HVAC skillset with installation and construction experience
• 5 +years of commercial HVAC experience preferred, with a strong focus on Light commercial unitary equipment, K-12 unitary & hydronic equipment & Data Center Split systems/ VRF.
• Strong knowledge of RTUs, DOAS, MUAs, DX systems, Mini split systems, VRF/VRV systems, Duct distribution systems, hydronic piping systems, pumps, VFDs, Exhaust and supply fans.
• Advanced troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and control systems
• Experience with refrigeration oil systems, mechanical sub-cooling, and advanced defrost diagnostics
• Ability to read and interpret Mechanical drawings, submittals and specifications.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with customers, management, and field teams
• Ability to manage priorities and work independently
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Ability to travel, work overnight, and work overtime as required


Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with HVAC Startup across all system types
• Universal EPA Certification
• HVAC/R technical school or accredited trade school coursework
• Prior experience supporting installation and retrofit projects
